I know there are ‘debates’ still surrounding Chan’s hair issue from last year, but as someone who isn’t black I cannot just invalidate the sentiments of black stays who simply want Chan to understand that the hairstyle he chose (this has been confirmed by a fan who asked if he chose the hairstyle during a fansign) has cultural impact and that what he has done by having his hair styled like that is cultural appropriation. Yes some black stays don’t frankly care, but there are who do and their thoughts matter.
This user tried to defend a friend of theirs, named Claud who wore cornrows despite being white, just like Chan wore despite being asian. Claud argued with a black person claiming they ‘knew’ what they were wearing. Don’t believe me? Here:
In the end Claud continued to mute people who called them out for favoring one man over an entire race that has been oppressed for centuries. And this user supported them through that. It’s not ‘being a good friend’. If this user was a ‘good friend’ they’d call Claud out and help them understand that what they did was wrong.
And by being a stay, it implies this user also supports Chan in wearing cornrows as well.
Although I wish this was the only complaint I had of this user, there’s much more, darker things to this user.
