Death By A Thousand Cuts vs The 1
Colours : The metaphor
Wildest dreams: A daydream
So it goes... and cruel summer
The parallels between So it Goes.... and Summer are absolutely amazing. It's like so it goes... is her living through that cruel summer.
Fever dream high in the quiet of the night-> See you in the dark
Bad bad boy shiny toy with a price you know that I bought it-> You know I'm not a bad girl but I'd do bad things with you
Killing me slow->cut me into pieces
What doesn't kill me makes me want you more->You did a number on me but honestly baby who's counting
Its blue the feeling I've got->goldcage hostage to my feelings
No rules in breakable heaven we break down a little but when you get me alone it's so simple
I am always waiting for you to be waiting below-> When you get me alone it's so simple
The word 'so it goes' is often used to indicate misfortune. Cruel Summer is about a relationship that was doomed from start. Although while so it goes... implies she is stuck in a pattern, cruel summer ends with a step forward in her new relationship. With her screaming "I love you" they are no longer stuck in the so it goes... phase of the relationship. It's no longer a breakable heaven.

Wildest Dreams: A Daydream
I have seen wildest dreams is one song so many people play guessing games with. And in my humble opinion it's not about a guy. It's her own daydream about having a perfect partner in a perfect world but her pessimistic approach is stopping her from believing that forever. She resents the city and crowd because it ruined one relationship for her. Her string of short lived relationships added with her own insecurities and constant slutshaming from media convinced her that she'll never find forever. At that time she wasn't on good terms with many of her exes so the best she could hope for was that they would remember her in a good way. Her dream partner is Tall, handsome, bad boy without trying etc.. reciting every 20s girl's dream partner. This relationship is a secret, again because of added media pressure.
Taylor said this about the song which kind of supports my theory here :
"I think the way I used to approach relationships was very idealistic. I used to go into them thinking, ‘Maybe this is the one – we’ll get married and have a family, this could be forever’. Whereas now I go in thinking, ‘How long do we have on the clock – before something comes along and puts a wrench in it, or your publicist calls and says this isn’t a good idea?’"
Anyway, that's my two cents
Colours: The metaphor
Taylor swift while has used multiple colour metaphors throughout her album, I would like to discuss about her usage of 'colours'. She used this terms thrice in her discography and I would like to break down the meaning.
The rest of the world was black and white but we were in screaming colours
Here the black and white/colour usage is interesting because black and white is usually used to describe 'dull' or 'old'. We used to have black and white TVs before colour TVs came into picture. And a colourful images are something that catches everyone's attention over black and white pictures. So this lyric, to me, simply means that Taylor and her partner found everything else boring and dull when they were together. It also alternatively means that them being together was such an eye catching event that it literally caught everyone's attention(which further proved by I know places)made everything that didn't involve them as black and white to others.
You showed me colours you know I can't see with anyone else
Here Taylor uses this metaphor to explain the unique way her lover makes her feel. The song itself is about infidelity. Taylor wants to put a stop to it but she can't. This feeling, this version of her that others doesn't know, is for him and him only. The song also has an underlying blame-y vibe. Like 'how dare you make me feel this way'
You painted all my nights A colour I have searched for since
The meaning here is similar to illicit affairs despite being less aggressive and blaming. Here she is seen actively looking for that colour. He is also not just showing her these colours, he is painting with those colours to make her nights more beautiful. Here she is not angry at him for showing those colours. It's a bitter sweet memory for her and not something that invokes frustration.
Edit:
Seen your colours fade(sweeter than fiction)
Here Taylor is talking about someone's lack of confidence. She is describing how she has seen the muse at his lowest point and how she wants to help him is the next lyric.
THE 1 is what she says. DBATC is what she wants to say.
In my head The 1 is something she tells the muse and DBATC is something she wants to tell him. How?
Both songs have such a contrasting beginning. DBATC opens with the speaker revealing she is not fine AT ALL. She is drunk, faking happiness, and is absolutely miserable. But in the 1, she lets the muse think she is doing great. This could either mean that she is actually "doing good [she's] on some new shit" or that she no longer feels like she is close with the muse enough to let them know how she truly feels.
"I thought I saw you at the bus stop I didn't though" and "I see you everywhere the only thing we share is this small town" says the same thing. But the emotional weight in both of these lyrics are different. It's like she is trying to be casual about it but its killing her inside.
I hit the ground running each night, I hit the Sunday matinee//I dress to kill my time I take the long way home I ask the traffic lights if it will be allright》 She tells them she has found a routine and is no longer *upset* when in reality she's doing all of this as an attempt to move on from him and it's seemingly not working.
The 'greatest loves' of all time were never made//You said it was a great love one for the ages》 she wants to remind him that he said they were a 'great love' but she doesn't want to seem too invested in case he no longer feels that way.
She casually asks 'we were something don't you think so?' when in reality she is going through her 'my heart my hips my body my love tryna find a part of me that you didn't touch' phase.
We never painted by the numbers baby but we were making it count//our country guess it was a lawless land》 Paint by numbers is a phrase used relating to colouring books where each numbers are assigned to a particular color. This lyrics mean that the writer and the muse did not do things how you are 'supposed' to do and they did not do things the way everyone expected them to do
There could be more and I will add things as soon as I realise it
