honesty hour
spacepiloted:
“ you know what ?? sir’s off limits now, too. the other pilots around here just call me poe. there’s not a lot of us, so … formality isn’t a priority around here. ” he finishes his sentence with a short-lived shrug. “ huh. well, uh— — this is the hangar. one of them, at least. ” poe’s eyes motion towards their surroundings, which consist of a degree of commotion and disarray than what’s customary. “ usually it’s quieter than this, but a couple of us are getting ready for a patrol tonight. any questions so far ?? ”
Galen blushed when Poe called him out for being so formal. He nodded, chewing at his lip. “Sorry, s- Poe.” Wow, this felt surreal. Poe’s gesture made him look around the hangar again, watching the various pilots, mechanics, and droids bustling around the ships. “How many hangars are there?” he asked, looking back to Poe with earnest eyes. “And- and can I come with you? On the patrol?”

spacepiloted:
“ i believe you. i’ll try my best to be around and help you out, but i don’t get to spend a lot of time hanging around anymore. ” for a second, he sees a bit of himself in him. poe’s determination is fueled by the fact that he’s been surrounded with the cause since birth, and growing up on the stories with friend-hand accounts proved he’d grow up similarly. “ well, we do a whole lot of fighting around here, so you’re in the right place. anyone show you around the base yet ?? ”
Galen smiled in relief when Poe said he believed him, ducking his head. “Thank you, sir.” There was something comforting about Poe standing before him, something that made the whole thing seem more real than it had since Amelie had murdered the other trainees and left with Ben Solo. It felt like he could finally breathe again. “Glad to hear that, sir,” he said, grinning and finding himself standing straighter. “N- no, no one’s really shown me around the base, sir. They’ve all been too busy, and I didn’t want to bother them.”
eclissu:
She softened and rested her chin on her knees. “I idolized someone. And I was afraid. What do you think would have happened, Galen? If I hadn’t joined Be-Kylo? I’d have been just another body burnt in the ruins. And then I wouldn’t have…I’d never get to see you again. See Mom again. Or dad.”
Galen looked away. “You should’ve come home. You should’ve just- you shouldn’t’ve run off and join them.”
He shifted in his seat, standing. “Is there anything else you wanted to call about? Other than making me feel like shit and ruining my day?”
a-scumbag:
He blushed, and that made Josiah grin. He leaned against the X-wing as casually as he could, looking down at him and shaking his hand. “Quite a grip you have,” he said softly, lips twitching up again.
“I am. Let me see…” He pulled away and crouched beneath the X-Wing. “Just as I thought. This is one of mine. I supplied this T-70.” He shook his head and hopped back out. “I was getting some fresh air. That base is suffocating sometimes. How do you stand it? Don’t you ever want to leave? Get out and see the world?”
Galen narrowed his eyes as the man ducked underneath his ship, crouching down to stay at his level. “You’re our supplier?” he asked, standing back up with Josiah. “Where do you even get these ships?”
He blinked. “But I can’t leave,” he replied, furrowing his brows. “I need to stay on the base in case they need me.” Galen crossed his arms, leaning back against his ship. “How many planets have you been to, then?”
eclissu:
“I-! I was young! I was stupid! I…” But she couldn’t use that excuse forever. Instead, she just let him have it, face souring in the hologram.
“I’m sorry. You’re right. This was stupid. Hate me. It’s what I deserve.”
Galen’s sour face matched his sister’s. “Why’d you do it?” he asked, voice finally losing some of its harshness.
“What happened to you?”
a-scumbag:
“You’ve caught me,” he said softly, smiling faintly. “I’ve come to watch you work on your…ship it seems. T-70, right?” Josiah grinned and tapped his shoulder twice. “Come on. The wire you’re looking for is right here.”
Josiah looked at him, quirking a brow. He was so short. So so so short. He’d never met anyone this short. “Josiah Knight. Pleasure to meet you.”
Galen couldn’t help the blush that spread across his cheeks - for all the mannerisms he’d worked hard to change during his transition, blushing was the one thing he’d never been able to control. It didn’t hurt that the man was attractive. Those cheekbones. Galen was envious.
“T-70, yeah,” he replied, glancing where the man gestured. “Thank you, Josiah Knight.” He turned back to the man, sticking out his hand. “Galen Eclissu. And other than me, what brought you out here? In the cold? You with us?”
spacepiloted:
the boy’s lack of dexterity in terms of piloting didn’t bother him much; after all, they’ve got plenty of time shape him up. as long as there’s dedication and a fervor for the cause somewhere in him, poe’s as content as can be. besides, there’s going to be some time before they can get their hands on an x-wing for the boy to fly with true ownership. “ well, this thing’s a little bit different than a speeder, but you’ll catch on. i’ve got people who can get you flying in no time. ” he pauses. “ you’re sure you want to do this ?? it can get pretty rough out there. ”
Galen nodded again, earnest and genuine. “I’m sure it is, sir,” he agreed, tilting his head slightly. “But I promise, I’ll pick it up quick, I’m good at that,” he added, trying to reassure the other man. The last question made him pause. Was he sure? Galen glanced back at the ship, tracing the angles and lines of the metal as it loomed over the two of them. “I’m sure,” he breathed, turning back to Poe. “I want to fight the First Order, sir.”
a-scumbag:
It was a nice night out on D’Qar, the dual moons shining brightly in the sky. It was a few moments, standing with his hands in his pockets before he noticed him. His men had brought all the new shipments of weapons in for the Resistance, and now it was just a matter of schmoozing.
Like he said, he didn’t notice him at first, but when he looked over at the X-Wing and its pilot, he trudged towards him and leaned against the space ship.
“Bit cold out to be working on your ship, don’t you think?”
Galen wrapped himself up and headed out to the open hangar, intent on keeping it in the best shape he could. His job was life and death, and it depended on his ship being well-maintained - however much Galen did not want to be outside in this cold, shivering in the bright moonlight as he rooted around in the wires.
He didn’t notice the man at first, too intent on finding where this one fucking wire led, but then he spoke, drawing Galen’s attention.
“Someone’s gotta work on it,” he retorted, stepping back and standing up straight. He hated being this short, having to crane his neck to look up at the other man, and it showed in the stubborn set of his jaw. “What’re you doing out in the cold, then?”
spacepiloted:
“ galen, right ?? just call me poe, buddy. it’s nice to meet you, ” he extends his hand in order for them to properly introduce themselves with a cordial greeting, despite being fully aware of the fact that both have been briefed on the encounter. poe doesn’t take the presence new recruits lightly, especially when said cub of the resistance has chosen to take on the role that he’s had for so long. “ glad to have another pilot around here. ” a pause as he takes in their surroundings, trying to make his mind up in terms of where to start. “ you ever fly one of these ?? “ he asks, in relation to the x-wing that sits behind them, shadowing their meeting. it won’t be the first time that he has to show someone the ropes of piloting, and poe sure as hell wouldn’t have anyone else in his current position.
Galen smiled brightly, nodding. “Galen, yeah. Galen Eclissu,” he replied, shaking the older man’s hand briefly. “It’s nice to meet you too, Com- Poe.” There’s something oddly comforting about the man telling him to just use his first name. It makes him feel like he’s part of something. Like he belongs. Galen followed his gaze, looking up at the X-wing again with a sheepish grin. “No, I- I’ve only ever driven an old speeder, but-” He realized maybe Poe wasn’t the best person to admit his lack of knowledge to. “But I promise, I’m a quick learner, sir. I’ll pick it up fast.”
eclissu:
“So if I come to the Resistance, you’ll stop being a pilot? I’ll defect today, Galen. I want you safe. If something happened to you, I couldn’t stand it. I don’t care about any of it—the First Order, the Resistance. I care about you.” She had always cared about him.
Her anger had always gotten the best of her. Always, even since she was a kid. Most of her life, she’d been angry. Angry about her parents adopting some kid. Angry about her parents not letting her do anything. Angry with Luke. Angry with this world. And now… Now, she was just worried about her little brother. And worried about the very real possibility of waking up to him being killed by some TIE fighter.
“I don’t want you near my new family,” Galen growled. “You’ll just stab them in the back like you did everyone else at the temple.” Once again, another low blow, but he couldn’t help it.
“I don’t trust you,” he finished, lifting his chin.

eclissu:
She tried not to let his comments hurts, but her eyes watered up despite trying to keep a cool face. She grit her teeth, licking her lips as she looked away from his hologram. He’s just angry. Don’t let it get to you, she tried to tell herself, but his words hurt her more than he knew.
“I don’t…I don…I don’t kill people for…for Kylo…for Snoke. I..I gather information. It’s not…what you think…” She swallowed thickly. “You…You should try and get a job in something…different. I don’t want you getting hurt during the fighting. Try and do something..in maps. You like maps, right?”
There’s a sort of sick pleasure burning in Galen’s gut at the sight of tears brimming in Amelie’s eyes. Maybe she would finally understand the pain he’d been feeling since he found out she’d betrayed them.
“Don’t try to sugarcoat it,” he snapped. “You’ve killed people. For them. You’re just lying to yourself if you think you haven’t.” He, too, looked away. “I’ll get a job in ‘maps’ when you come over to the Resistance, how’s that?” A beat. “Not fucking happening, that’s how.”
eclissu:
Amelie smiled at the sight of her brother, perking up until…until he scowled.
“Ok, well, please don’t? Mom and dad didn’t go through all the trouble of raising us just to…just to be pissed at each other forever.” She frowned and hugged her knees to her chest. “How are you? How’s the Resistance? You still a fighter pilot?”
Galen’s scowl deepened at the mention of their parents. “Mom and dad also didn’t go through all the trouble of raising us just for you to go off and fuck about with the First Order,” he retorted, voice sharp and angry. Even so, he settled in - some part of him missed his sister, as much as he refused to admit it.
“Yeah, ‘m still a pilot. What about you? Still going ‘round killing people for your boss?” He knew it was a low blow, but he couldn’t help it.

Galen was eighteen years old. He was eighteen years old, and a fresh recruit for the Resistance. He was eighteen years old, a fresh Resistance recruit, and he was standing in front of a T-70 X-wing for the first time.
He swallowed, glancing around at the other people bustling around the hangar, before looking back at the X-wing looming over him. He’d wanted to learn how to pilot one ever since his father had taught him how to pilot their dinky speeder back home on Chandrila.
One particular person caught his interest, and he turned to face him. “You’re Commander Poe Dameron, right?”
