And another thing. The entire show is tainted because of how left field this whole season was. There were so many other ways to have Rudy leave without killing him. I will never get over the absolute terrible writing that this is. It’s BAD and for me, it invalidates the rest of the show that precedes it, all the comfort, warm, fun, found family stuff now just feels like pain and I don’t want it anymore. They ruined the legacy of the show with this.

People resonated and related to JJ. A lot of us have experienced that trauma … or some trauma. They stripped him of who he is and invalidated his years of surviving the abuse—remaining loving despite it.

You HAVE to consider your audience. Like, what message does this send? That a character with this much trauma is too hard to write a good evolution for and therefore just kill him. Abuse victims and survivors are worthy and have value and are not expendable. His death hurt me so deeply.

My mom died this year. We watched this show together, we experienced our abuse and trauma together, guess who our favorite character was.

We are worthy of love and we are worthy of life. Living a full life unburdened with the weight of our past in whatever way that means, abuse, ptsd.

I can’t get over this one. My comfort show is gone, the show my mom and I bonded over. The stupid, yellow tinted boat show.

And to have the source of that trauma ending his life, well it just sends a bad message and I can’t believe that no one stopped that from getting greenlit.

Also Rudy not even being able to look at Kiara or touch her most of the time is insanity. Even more insane is their spin on it all (being planned all along). No one believes that. If it was planned the whole time and you still put JJ through…. You’re even worse writers for having known “ This was planned.”

This is what I’d do from a PR standpoint.

Rerelease the last episode with your alternate ending. When Rudy isn’t in season 5, we’ll accept that as long as he’s alive somewhere.

You don’t have to worry about people watching it’s what we all want and it would be an unprecedented, historic, heroic move that invariable puts you back in the good seat.

Next season you can explain his absence with a note from him that he’s gone to find peace on a surf trip … and the team continue the search for the crown or something. At the end they find out he was actually kidnapped and it ends with them going on a mission to rescue him. That’s it. Cut to black. Rudy doesn’t have to come back.

And another thing. Why would they add the lore about a wish on the crown if they weren’t giving themselves a shot in the dark way to bring him back.

The writing is shit, I know. But, it seems a little like a Deus ex Machina plot device to allow for wiggle room in the last season. The season where they’re not trying to get another season and logic leaves the room entirely. Hence a crown wished upon can give us a glimpse of hope. And the writers the contingency for contract negotiation/actor schmoozing/whatever.

I know the likelihood is slim, but a pair of black boots walking and the back of a blond head with a backwards cap—cut to black, and you don’t even need Rudy.

Here I’ll write the ending for you, Pates.

Kiara gets the crown, and immediately whispers “JJ”…. For whatever reason maybe to save the baby or Poguelandia, the wish that is fully made is for something other than JJ. Something that can be explained by something other than magical means. The end. Credits. They have their ending that is rooted in semi-reality.

Cut to a wide shot of Obx, then a boat going fast, then the black boots in the boat, the back of a blond head. The end.

The pogues get a voicemail from JJ played on speaker and all he says is “I’m coming home John B”… you could use old recordings of Rudy speaking. The pogues all look up at each other, stunned. The end.

Are Rudy and Maddie going to address the rumors together separately or do you think Netflix and the Pates will have to get involved?

I think Rudy is pretending he’s never heard of obx and Maddie is getting the brunt of hate, unfortunately. If I were Maddie, I wouldn’t touch that with a 10-foot pole. Anything she says will just be turned against her and in the end it’s not on her how it went down.

Whatever happened between them personally, it was the producer’s jobs to handle that shit. They could have written him off in 182468228 other ways beside killing him. So, I think whether they make a statement or not, it would be on the Pates to address it, not necessarily the actors.

Though, to them they probably already did address it in that interview they did where they said it was a plan all along. Which is so clearly a PR attempt to polish a rock into a diamond. But, if you have any brain cells left after watching that shitshow season, it was never in the plan. They pivoted when Rudy wanted to leave and what I think seems like spite writing, killed him….countering all his previous character development, writing, and prior interviews from the cast and producers about the show and character.

We can feel a certain type of way about the actors, but they’re the employees—not the bosses, not HR.

There should be laws against this kind of spite writing, the fuck?!
