The reply was imbued with a semblance of woundedness and punctuated by pursed lips ( whether L’s display was GENUINE or NOT was left to the discretion of the receiver ). As he rose to a standing position atop his chair, he proceeded to place his right foot upon Light’s desk, leaning slightly to reach the tin of candy on the shelf to the other man’s side. Long fingers grasping it, he retracted from Light’s space and slumped back into his prior position.

Dark eyes glanced toward his companion, then back again. “You know, I was going to OFFER you some, if that’s what you’re grumpy about.” L popped the tin open, then placed the lid on his own work surface. So many varying, multicolored wrappers to choose from were within, and he debated momentarily as to where he might begin. “But I’ve changed my mind.” Selecting a RED one, he hummed lightly as he set about extricating the sweet. “You’ve hurt my feelings.”

Truth be told, he hadn’t expected to hear those words out of Mello’s mouth. Not so soon, anyway. Thinking back on it, he must have misread how much the blond drank to be getting the sentimental side of Mello (that or Matt had swallowed more of the alcohol than he’d remembered… Both options were all too possible.) 

His cigarette was held between his lips; a tightened grip on the end of moistened paper preventing him from laughing at the bottle sliding off the other end of the table for only a moment. Leaning in closer to his friend, the redhead bent to swat in the general direction of the fallen bottle in a breathless fit of choked laughter. “Awwwwww~” the sound drawn out over his amusement. 

“I’m not trying to distract you, Mells–” he teased, tipping over to settle against Mello’s shoulder with an easy drag on his cigarette. “And I never asked you anything to begin with.” He cracked a wide grin, closed his eyes, then opened them much more slowly than anticipated. “I think… I told you I’m gonna need a new lighter.” It made the most sense, since he didn’t know where the damn thing had gotten off to in that moment. 

Reaching up to push a hand through the other’s hair, Matt paused to pat him on the head. “But I missed you too. Guess you won’t be running away on your own anymore, huh?” 

The sudden weight against his shoulder and the sound of Matt’s amusement left Mello glancing at the redhead from the corners of his eyes. Was it that funny? Part of him was tempted to nudge off the television remote next, in a purely experimental fashion, until he realized that the fact he was even considering knocking more objects from a flat surface ‘ like a cat ’ wasn’t one he would have at all were alcohol not involved.

“Could’ve fooled me.” The rejoinder was muttered almost under his breath. When Mello glanced at Matt once more, he wished he hadn’t. If that familiar, easy grin remained in his line of sight for too long, he was liable to say or do something else irrevocably stupid. Thus, he tipped his head back to shift his attention to the ceiling, sporting that popcorn effect in the plaster that he had always hated.

A derisive scoff was next to escape Mello’s lips at Matt’s reminder. “How many lighters are you gonna go through before one sticks, idiot?” And how he had wandered off on a tangent about leaving Wammy’s House over a lighter? He couldn’t even begin to remember, which was all the more concerning. Mello allowed a quiet click of his tongue; he was never drinking again. Leave this sort of thing to Matt.

Instinctively, his posture stiffened at the sensation of another set of fingers in his hair, on the crown of his head; it felt nice, but foreign ( would he ever grow accustomed to being touched like that? ). “Of course you missed me. I make your life infinitely more interesting.” Relaxing now, he leaned against Matt’s palm for a brief moment. “But — I’m not about to make you any promises. I was fine on my own. It’s just easier to focus on the overall picture when I don’t have to worry about the minute details, that’s all.”

This was precisely the reason why Mello abstained from alcohol on general principle; it never lead to anything productive. Case in point? Growing dangerously close to overt sentimentality. One more beer and he would be suggesting they head off to ‘ tie the knot ’ or some such bullshit. With a deliberate move of his hand, he pushed the second, unopened bottle across the coffee table. At least, that was his intention. It slid clean off the side instead, thankfully onto the carpeted floor the living room offered in the little place they had been occupying since surveillance on their prime Kira suspect began. “I think I misjudged that.” Or he was already past verging on tipsy, a notion which Mello refused to entertain any further ( embarrassing ). 

He pressed his lips together and ran a hand through his hair. Fuck it. “Nothing feels right when you’re not around.” Then, he held up an index finger as a nonverbal however. “You can be really distracting. I don’t need it.” Might want it, yet that was irrelevant. “So — wait, what was the question again?”

TodoDeku Week 2018 Day 6 : Family

Last year I drew them visiting Todoroki’s mom, so this year, they are visiting Deku’s mom at her place and helping out with groceries and making dinner after Deku got out of the hospital again.
