âI am Groot.âÂ
Favorite part of your daily routine?
âI am Groot!
Groot starts each morning by reading the Earthly newspapers and magazines heâs begged Rocket to pick up for himâitâs a drain on their resources (who knew magazines could be so expensive), but Groot thrives on having all the knowledge available to him at his fingertips. After reading, he tried Peterâs earth drinks, realizes yet again that he does not like them, then does the stretches he hopes will extend his rootsâso far, it has not worked.Â

Hearing the tiny âI am Grootâ made Fitz smile, casting his gaze downwards long enough to shoot Groot a small wink. He loved him, and he barely knew him beyond a promise to recycle and an adorably awesome little alien. And with being an adorable little alien, certain assisting had to be done on Leoâs part⊠like pulling out a stool for the lilâ guy at the bar.Â
The place was buzzing, and Leo was happy to have a second with Groot before the barman could come over and ask for orders. He could help Groot decide without being rushed by someone. Scouring over the bottles, Fitz had already decided on a run and coke, but he had no idea what the guardian would want. Would alcohol on Earth even taste remotely similar to alcohol in the galaxy?
Fitz felt a small poke, looking back to Groot with a small grin. âSorry, I was thinkinâ in tha clouds. Whatâs up?â He heard the similar phrase easily enough, but deciphering it was a bit harder. Leo looked at Grootâs gaze- his clothes- and then tried piecing it together. âIâm a detectiveâs assistant. Ma friend, Grant, is tha detective. But heâs out doinâ somethinâ. What did ya carve into your pumpkin, Groot?âÂ
He hadnât managed to look at the actual carving, as much as he had wished he could. He was intrigued at what Groot would carve, considering it more important than anything else around them.
Groot surveyed Fitzâ clothes with interest. He had seen many the fantastical creature that nightâdragons and knights, princesses and superheroes. It was quite confusing at first, seeing so many Captain Americas and Hulks but finding himself ignored when he tried to reach out to the Earthly heroes he had heard so much about; eventually, Groot had learned better, added âcostumeâ and âfanâ to his list of Earthly words. Now, looking at Fitzâdressed in a more unique costume than many Groot had set eyes on so farâhe couldnât help but smile, clapping his small hands together in excitement. He had met many detectives in his time; there was always some wise man ready to help at a port or alien planet, and while not all could be trusted, they were all certainly interesting. With his great intelligence and kind demeanor, Fitz seemed suited for the occupation.
While he pulled the menu close, Groot propped his pumpkin up against the bar and turned its face to Fitz. It was a classic Jack OâLanternâthe sort Groot had read about in his books on Earth and his internet exploration. (Of course, the internet always had far too may options for anything one might like to do, but Groot had weeded through the elaborate designs to find the most common, the most âEarthlyâ and traditional to complete his cultural know-how.) He tried to explain this to Fitz, smiling widely and excitedly as he relayed his great knowledge on Earthly practices. He had, after all, been studying.
Finally finding a drink that he actually recognized, Groot pointed to the selection on the menu and said, quite clearly to the bar tender, âI Am Groot,â but it was no use.
âAnd I am busy,â said the man, gruffly. âWhat do you want?â
Groot sighed, summoning all his concentration and pointing to the drink again. He cleared his throat and said, slowly, sure to enunciate every word, âI am Groot.â The bartender glared, and Groot looked to Fitz for help, small eyes growing larger in his frustration.
Happy times, huh? They do call me Party Hardy.
I hope that means youâll be there. Any snack requests?
Uh Hey there, Groot. I go by Felicia.
Post Halloween Madness || Peter and Groot
Peter had gotten used too having Groot around. He started using his phone a lot more for video chatting and was getting more and more caught up on new technology.
Still on a mission, Peter decided to do some snooping around the city in the early morning on November 1st. Clubs let out and the streets weâre filled with heavily intoxicated people. Part of peter wished that he was doing the walk of shame with the the party-goers.Â
âGroot buddy, you should see all these costumes. Some are crazy clever and others are super tight and short which is just as great,â he said as he sat on a park bench and watched the crowds.

Groot had been left on shipâan all too regular occurrence what with his legs being only four inches tall, and his once terrifying demeanor stooped into a single squeak. Â Sitting on the other side of Rocketâs computer, Groot watched now as the Halloween party-goers trampled across the phone screen in Peterâs world, all beautiful and colorful, bright, and everything that was unique and interesting and oh-so compelling about Earthly life. Groot wanted to be a part of it all. âI am Groot!â he said, the crease of his brow and clench of his tiny fist the only indications that he could muster to tell Peter he wanted out. He wanted to walk the streets, sit on Peterâs shoulders and see the night after for himself.
From the moment theyâd landed on this blue and green planet, Groot had been consumed with excitement. Heâd read every book he could get his branches on, researched whatever the internet could provide, and asked Peter so many questionsânot that the man ever truly understoodâthat Groot was sure he was well on his way to becoming an Earth expert. Holidays and parties? Those were the foundations of culture. He had to be there.
