[ Yoooo congrats!! I successfully moved out of my hometown the last time we talked I think! Still in Texas of course XD 

But I am doing alright, much better than how I was and yo my RPing days are also mostly DnD and Monster of the Week. Mostly Monster of the Week, ha ]

Hello, dear. I believe I remember you. I wouldn’t call myself a shadow, I believe that is your realm, correct? I would not describe Him as such, but if I recall correctly, this was never a subject that ended well when it came to pleasant conversing.

She nods, tears welling in her hazel eyes. “The demon has not come calling in well over a year,” Winona replied, “and…Father, last summer was the depths of my depravity. I’m–sorry you had to see that. I do not turn my back from God, and I face His judgement fully. But…I have one reservation. There is one person I struggle to forgive.” A tear rolled down her flushed cheek. “I cannot forgive myself for what happened last summer. And–I’m not sure I want to. Because if I do…that means I stop repenting for it. And I fear if I do that, I will not gain His forgiveness…does that make any sense?” She’d clearly put a lot of thought into this. She hoped Father West could provide some guidance. What was she to do?

As we’ve said in times long ago, you look to Him for forgiveness, and truly mean it, and He will forgive you. He will do what you cannot, and perhaps in this case, it is for the best you do not. Though, I do not go so far as to tell you to torture yourself over it, just keep that close to your heart, and perhaps it will help you turn away from your sins if they find themselves knocking at your thoughts again.”

He smiled and leaned forward, tucking his sleeve up to wipe away her tears, before patting her on the head. Good girl.

As he used the fabric of his cassock to wipe away her tears–she smiled. And more tears fell. Not tears of despair, but relief. She knew that she was destined for purgatory…she knew that in some capacity, she was destined to burn.

But hopefully Father West was correct. She desperately sought absolution…she just hoped that the Lord would be able to forgive her (even if she was unable to do so herself).

“Thank you, Father,” she mumbled, her words choked with tears. “Will you–w-will you pray for me?”

"But of course." West scoffed, though the tone of distaste was more for drama, rather than legitimate displeasure. "I pray for all on the island, no matter who they are. Or what they are." The priest glanced to the side, not really giving more explanation on what 'what' was, as there was a whole lot of what on the island.

“Yes, Father,” she admits quietly. “Twice daily. Once in the morning, once at night before I go to sleep. I’ve made a practice of counting my blessings. The Lord I believe has…smiled on me. He has given the Pigs and I good soil. He has given us a good harvest. So much so that I make a point of sharing surplus with others that need.” She wrings her hands in front of her nervously. “I know I am not perfect but…I’m trying. I really am.”

“You can tell me how often you speak with Him, but that doesn’t answer my question, Winona. You’ve committed a number of sins, and last we spoke, you persisted in continuing them despite the punishment they’d bring. Our Father is a loving one, and He can show mercy even to those who burden His heart with sorrows, but even that does not mean you have fully repented for the authorities you have committed. And so I ask again, dear child...” West’s voice softened from the previous wary monotone he’d carried before, finding what gentleness he’d forsaken in the past in fear Winona would simply take it to her advantage.

“Have you stopped your sinning ways, or do you ask for forgiveness while still turning your back from God?”
