An interesting little tidbit I want to talk about (because I’m a Chris Redfield defender first and a human second) is the flack that Chris gets for yelling at Leon in Vendetta. I think a lot of people don’t truly get the magnitude of this scene, or why Chris did what he did, and that’s understandable to a degree because Capcom buried a lot of the details in the novel, which they never even translated at all. Should Chris have yelled at Leon? No, definitely not– yelling at someone who’s clearly hurting and definitely drunk isn’t productive in the slightest– but Chris wasn’t doing this out of malice. By this point in the movie, Chris has had a really shitty day. Arias killed Cathy White right in front of him, and Cathy and Chris were evidently pretty close, close enough that Chris had spent time with her kids and bought toys for them. And now Arias is gallivanting across the US ready to do to the rest of the population what he did to Cathy, and now Chris not only has the literal weight of the world on his shoulders, but he feels responsible for Cathy’s death and wants to avenge her. This is why the movie is called Vendetta– because Chris has a Vendetta against Arias for what he did.

At the point that he goes to find Leon, he’s racing against the clock, still struggling with Cathy’s death, and then he finds Leon drunk and miserable just like he was in Edonia. It’s specifically mentioned in the novel that the reason Chris is so upset is because seeing Leon in that state reminds him of what happened to him in Edonia. Now that doesn’t make how he reacted right, but I think it’s more… understandable I guess you could say. One of his close friends died on his watch, a world-ending apocalypse is about to happen, and now he’s watching someone he cares about self-destruct the same way he did.

When Rebecca goes to the bathroom, granting them some privacy, Chris does manage to get Leon to talk about what happened. He tries to comfort Leon and console him, telling Leon what happened with the president wasn’t his fault. So it’s not like Chris just yelled at him and then Leon “got over it” like what was shown in the movie.

so i have the scenario in my head where. leon and chris are dating. and chris gets a call from leon which is kinda weird cuz he only really calls for emergencies? and when chris picks up leon is just hurriedly saying “we need to break up its not working im sorry” and chris is so confused and trying to talk to him and ask what’s going on but it’s clear leon isn’t really paying attention and then chris hears ada’s voice in the background and he just. hangs up. leon cares enough about chris to not want to cheat on him but he’ll still choose ada over him every time even though he barely sees her and chris has been a million times more present and kind to him. been thinking a lot about aeon and unrequited chreon cuz of the comic im making lmao
