“ Explain ? ” The scoff of laughter was betrayed by the sadness behind deep brown hues. It shone through so brightly she couldn’t act like it hadn’t hurt her even if she tried. “ Explain what ? How you lied to me ? How you pretended that you wanted to be my friend just so you could get close enough to complete some secret task from my father ? ”

Her eyes glazed over, but she fought back any tears. It made her feel silly to be this upset, like she should have expected it. A defeated sigh, shaky breath, she diverted her gaze away from him. “ Do you have any idea how stupid I feel ? I actually thought you wanted to know me. That for once in my life someone actually cared enough to want to know me for me and not because of who my father is. I guess I really am just that naive. ”

It had seemed like such a reactive response. He could explain, but the explanation wouldn't do either of them any good. Not to mention, she already had all the details it seemed. He wondered how she found out, but asking that gave the impression that he was ignoring the real issue at hand. What he had done to her, regardless of whether it had been his job.

Logan stayed quiet, letting her speak, yell, whatever she had to do. He deserved it, he knew that much. Still, he hated watching her look so upset. "I did want to know you—i do." He rushed out. "I didn't want to know you because of him. I just..." His words hung in the air, debating how much to tell her as he didn't know how much she already knew. "It started out being a job, but everything else after that was real."

@stayliquid sage wasn't always the brightest of the bunch, she was gullible, she liked to stay oblivious but she wasn't dumb. no, she wasn't stupid.. she knew that name, that text that'd popped up on logans phone and it dawned on her. the horror started to etch onto her face slowly, and that horror wedged deeply into her heart. she'd trusted him, day after day hovering around she'd started to trust him, she'd go to him. she'd confided in him and now she felt like an idiot.

she stood quickly, back stepping to put distance between them simply repeating the word 'no' over and over, a pillow clutched into her hand and that grip sent her knuckles white with force. "no, no no no... i know that name, toby abs? short for tobias abernathy? i know i'm a bit dim when it comes to the family affairs but i hear the talk, i hear the names that are brought up. he's a cop, right? tobias abernathy is a cop." she felt her stomach turning but it wasn't the kind that made her feel sick, it was that kind that made her fill up with so much anger, god so much of it and sage... she was never angry. she was never anything but obliviously content.

"you're a cop." she ground the words out, her eyes never daring to leave him. "say it! i'm right aren't i?! you're a cop! you're a fucking-" she lifted her arm and launched the pillow right at his head and it was a damned good thing it wasn't a knife, he was lucky that sage hadn't been cooking because she threw that pillow likes he hoped it'd slice through him. "-cop!" she felt the sting of tears and knew that she did not want to cry, the tears burned her eyes with what she imagined was venom. "was it your sick plan or something, get me to trust you, weasel your way in? make me trust you? was that the plan logan? is this what you wanted?!" she shouted, her voice cracking. "how could you do this to m--.. to me?"

there had been a million and one different ways things could go wrong. his main concern being her safety above everything else to eliminate the worse case scenario in his mind. he hadn't been sloppy, unless getting involved with her at all counted. logan didn't allow himself to think about it, wanting to just enjoy the time he had with her while he still could. knowing once he took her family down, she would be done with him.

so much for not being sloppy. he had been careless with his phone simply by allowing his superior to contact him — though arguable he should have known better than to text. not that it really mattered, as sage hadn't seen the details — just the name and that was all it took. "sage..." he was trailing off, a million and one excuses and lies flying through his mind and he could have ran with any of them.

but he didn't. because as it turned out, he didn't want to. lying to her as they got closer had been hard enough. swallowing thickly, he easily moved so the pillow sailed passed him. though part of him knew he should have let it hit him — maybe satisfy her the smallest bit. as she continued to scream out his true identity, he knew he should have stopped her. they were alone, but anyone could have walked in at any time. "no. no!" he rushed forward, attempting to reach for her but thinking better of her wanting him to touch her.

"that wasn't the plan. you were never part of the plan. i'm with you because i want you."

the way he was talking had her swallowing thickly. she dug her teeth into her lower lip and she watched him reach for her hand. moira let him take it, no matter how foreign it felt for him to do something so soft. her brow furrowed and she looked up at him. her heart raced in her chest and she situated herself in her chair a little better. "you can't figure out what i want? chase, i've told you a million times. i just wanted you. but i can't ask you to financially support me like that." tears glistened in her eyes and she looked away, trying to blink the tears away. she tilted her head to the side and took a deep breath, but she hadn't let go of his hand yet. "...if you're gonna be adamant about it, fine." she nodded and chewed on her lower lip. "i just need to go back to my place to get my stuff. let my clients know i'm not doing it all anymore. some of them won't be real fucking pleased, but..." she shrugged. / @stayliquid

For as much as Chase didn't like the idea of Moira entertaining another man with any part of her, it didn't stem down to a jealousy thing. It was hard enough for him to protect her from his own enemies, but her clientele was even worse. And he couldn't kill every of one of them. It boiled down to a safety thing, with keeping her to himself as a bonus. "You're not asking me to though?" The words rolled off his tongue simply, brows furrowing at the tears he saw before she turned away. His grip on her hand tightened. Just when he thought she was going to turn him down, her words surprised him. "I'll tell them." He was quick to speak, rising to his feet as he moved around to where she sat. Crouching down in front of her, he reached for both her hands. "I'll do anything to keep you out of that world. Do you understand me?" His tone was firm, but soft.

Watching the damage created when one of his fellow firefighters fell and trying to help pick up the pieces with what was left was the most difficult thing. "If we ended things now, you won't ever have to experience it."

Theo didn't want to put Olivia in the position she was in now. It's why he avoided saying something for so long. Now he damned the liquor in his drink for giving him the courage to say anything, "I shouldn't have said it, Liv," he repeated his sentiment, "just forget I said it. I'm drunk." Anything he could say to just have her let it go, he would do.

Just as he was about to go, she pulled him back down to sit next to her, "I didn't mean to spring this on you," he felt nervous and he didn't know a way out of the situation this time. Also the stress of the truth coming out.

He thought he had heard her wrong, "you have feelings for me?" Theo wasn't expecting to hear that from her, only a 'I'm sorry, but I love Matt,' not a confession. Swallowing, "Liv, you don't need to say that because I put you on the spot, it's okay." Theo didn't want to put her in a position where she needed to choose, "I've lived with this secret for years and I can continue to do it." @stayliquid

There was a lot of word vomit happening on her end. At least it wasn't actual vomit, however, it was a sensitive situation that should have been handled more delicately. Even if she had always had more feelings for Theo than she had Matt, it wasn't that simple.

"I'm not saying that because you put me on the spot." Liv rushed out, a shake of her head. "I mean, sure, maybe I'm more eager to admit things because I've been drinking but it doesn't make them any less true."

She frowned knowing he hadn't said anything for so long. She had settled for Matt, watching Theo have his occasional flings or hookups which were never fun, but she was the one with a boyfriend. His best friend. "No," reaching, her hand grabbed at his chin to twist it toward her to claim his lips with her own.

"You're not helping, Gabriel!" Genevieve remarked in a sing-song tone as she wrestled with her torn skirt. It was ONE thing that one of her favorite skirts was now ruined... and it was another thing to lock herself in this small bathroom with him. "And this was such a good skirt, too... Oh, my god... I'm not walking outta here, Gabe - I can't. It's too embarrassing. ...It's official. I live in this courthouse bathroom, now."

It was the dramatics that had Gabe rolling his eyes. Embarrassing for her? Sure, but it wasn't the end of the world, right. "Just take the jacket and cover yourself to walk out to your car." It was already being shrugged off his shoulders to hand over to her. "Just head home and change, you'll be fine." He insisted.

Sadie looked up from her glass of wine, confused. Hurt was evident in her eyes already, eyebrows furrowing at him. "I'm boring you?" Her voice was soft, fingers curling around her wine glass for a moment before she sighed.

"I came because you wanted me to. How does that make me boring? It just seems like it makes you ungrateful for my company."

"I didn't invite you thinking you would default to being boring." The baseball player mused, outstretching his arms in an exaggerated shrug of sorts. "Why should I just be satisfied that you're here, huh?" He posed the question before taking a sip of his drink.

the shift in tension was obvious, a sinking in her stomach. it took a lot for rowan to grow attached to someone, typically carefree in nature and often trying desperately to protect the heart her father had broken years ago. careful eyes studied him, she shook her head, scared of where this conversation was about to go. " what are you saying right now ? are you — are you saying we shouldn't be together ? because that's crazy. you can't just not be with someone because you're afraid they'll get hurt. " okay, so she could see his point. but it ached her heart to think of him ever being that lonely. " what if i'm willing to take the risk ? " rowan held on a little more tightly to his hands in that moment, hoping he wouldn't let go.

the worst part was, he wasn't able to stress the extent of the dangers without spilling family secrets. or confirming rumors and so the bit of an explanation he had offered, was all he could offer. his eyes stared down at her hands still gripping onto his, as if holding on to them meant he wouldn't go anywhere. for the time being, that much rang true but he was already emotionally distancing himself from her. "i think that's a good reason to not be with someone." hayden replied softly, and in his world it was all that mattered. "i'm not willing to take the risk." this time, he did pull his hands away if only to express he was serious. "you have to stay away from me, rowan, okay? promise me."

"oh-," as soon as she said it, calvin remembered the conversation that morning about him picking her up, "shit, my bad, max." he pushed himself up from the chair, propelling himself towards her and stumbling slightly as he stopped in front of her (his terrible attempt at making her laugh). "you know i'd forget my head if it wasn't screwed on." he wrapped an arm around her waist, tugging her into a hug, "let me pay you back for the uber at least."

a small grin danced across her face as he stumbled, knowing what he was trying to do. the fact was, she did know just how easily he forgot things but it stung regardless. "yeah, i know..." her body rested against his as he pulled her into a hug, arms folding between them. "i don't really care about having to pay for the uber i just...." she trailed off, mentally debating whether to speak her thoughts or just let it go. "sometimes i feel like you forget me altogether."

a  silk  set  adorned  with  snowflakes  and  gingerbread  men  clings  to  her  body,    trapping  in  the  anxious  heat  that  now  radiates  from  her  skin.    ❛  well,    i  wasn’t  expecting  company.  ❜    she  admits,    wondering  if  that  makes  her  choice  of  outfit  better  or  worse    -    she  could  have  lied  and  said  that  she  went  to  a  christmas  pajama  party  or  something  but,    alas,    she  was  just  a  silly  girl  drinking  wine  alone  and  crying  to  awful  hallmark  movies.    the  mere  thought  of  him  visiting  her  before  anyone  else  sent  vines  of  feelings  through  her  body,    wrapping  around  her  heart  and  squeezing  it  in  sync  with  her  heartbeat.    watching  him  thrive  in  his  new  life  without  her  was  hard,    harder  than  she  had  thought  it  would  be,    and  now  that  he  was  back    -    she  wanted  to  beg  him  on  her  knees  to  stay.    ❛  i’m  glad  you  made  it  back…    we  all  miss  you  a  lot.    strawberry  milkshakes  at  chelsea’s  diner  just  don’t  taste  the  same  without  two  straws  in  them.  ❜

"that's good, cause if you were you might have been changed out of them." and he would have missed the cozy girl in silly holiday pajamas that he always loved so much. he hadn't seen much of her new place, but it was so her. it hadn't been easy keeping up with everyone back home while leo was always on the move, but he would have made the effort for her — if only it hadn't been too hard. they had both come to a silent understanding that they were either in each other's lives completely or not at all. he almost wondered if he had broken an unspoken rule by showing up. "yeah? i miss everyone too." moving his way inside more, he turned to her as he remained upright until she invited him to sit. "oh dang, i haven't had one of those in way too long." he laughed lightly, "but i'm sure you could throw another one in there anyway, couldn't you?" it wasn't the same, of course, but maybe part of him wanted to hear her say it.
