AN told us that we would see how different it is for a female firefighter to start a family comparing to a male firefighter.
We saw Stella not being ready. We saw her changing her mind. We saw her telling her husband that she wasn’t sure about getting pregnant but that she was sure about having the family with him.
From what we saw on a show her aunt’s medical records was main concern for her. She never said she didn’t want to get pregnant because she would be out of the job for some time. She just wanted time to be sure - which is exactly what you should do before taking the next step.
We heard AN saying that they didn’t want to have Stella pregnant cause it would mean sidelining Miranda and Stella (she told us this before S13 finale).
And here we are now. Failed adoption. Miscarriage. And fostering Isaiah. Since Stella made her mind about having a baby she was all in, like Kelly was earlier. We know how it went. So, when they took Isaiah in, we have two people who suffered tremendous losses and yet still decided to help this kid.
Was it hard for Stella to connect with him? Yes. Was it easier for Kelly cause there was no father figure in Isaiah’s life and he didn’t put so much pressure on himself? Also yes.
But, after a second it got better. For all of them. And then they decided to move Isaiah’s mom to another clinic, in another city. For Stella there was no hesitation to go with him. She took furlough and went to Cleveland. When she found out what happened to Kelly she came back home right away. And then she found out that Isaiah’s mom wanted someone else to take care of her kid. Despite how important her job is to her, she told Pascal that she would give him the reports later cause she had to be there for Isaiah.
Before you jump on me, I know that Kelly was busy. I know he had to find out who set up those fires. I also remember that he was doing this on his own, he wasn’t any longer part of the investigation. But he kept telling Stella that they are in this together, that they would figure this all out. He let the investigation took absolute priority over everything else. He told Casey that according to Stella OFI investigations were like drugs to him, but when he realised what he could lose, he knew what he really wanted and needed in his life. This time it was like he forgot about that. I know he knew his wife could’ve handled all that - but they are partners, they both agreed to take Isaiah in and help him, that means they should do it together. I also remember that Stella asked him to go shopping with this kid alone so they could bond - but this? It’s not about bonding, it was about future of this kid. She told him she felt alone in this, I don’t know how more clear she could be - and yet he barely made it on time.
So, it’s quite funny that even though Stella isn’t pregnant and that they took care of a teenager it was her job that „took a hit” -> I don’t like this phrase, but I hope you know what I mean.
When they get their baby - cause I don’t accept any other scenario - I hope that Kelly will be there for her and the baby all the time, no matter how fascinating cases OFI will offer to him.
And one more thing: I saw people saying that when Kelly came to say goodbye to Isaiah Stella was keeping the distance. Yes, she was. Maybe because for the last few days he was the one keeping distance and she couldn’t really count on him? I love this guy, but we can’t pretend that he did act like OFI and finding the arsonist wasn’t the only important thing in his life. When he did come back to loft he told her about the progress they made and didn’t even ask about the meeting with Lydia. Come on Kelly, you are better than this!
End of this long rant - hope that the next episode will be the beginning of better storytelling but I don’t have high expectations…
