Planning my re-shoot.

In order to re-create my image I am going to need two males with two skate boards. I am going to have to carefully monitor the weather and choose a dry day. Unfortunately, due to the little time availible I am going to have to compromise on the blue sky. I can take this image in college and this will be best as it will be brighter during the day than in the evenings.

It will be necesary to inform the college security gaurds of my intentions as people will be skate boarding in college grounds.

"the 5 Cs"

This is an image of two skaters, which I intend to re-create as part of my Street Photography and Technical Projects.

I am inspired by the fact that the figure in the foreground is off centre as this is more interesting than if he were central, however in this image this composition is also to allow the skater in the background to be seen in the distance. I think it's really interesting that the skater in the background is out of focus, rather than having both figures in focus as this is not conventional, especially because the action of the image is the aspect which is out of focus.

This image shows teenage culture well, I know that often my friends spend alot of time similarly to this, often sitting around whilst one or two people mess around on a skateboard. Because of this I feel this image is very relevant to my project because many of my photos were infact taken on a normal summer's day out with friends and I feel this is the context of images I really like, almost unposed.

I think the colours in this image are really striking, especially as the red is really vibrant against the fuzzy blues in the back ground.

Recreating an image- Technical analysis.

The depth of field in this photo is shallow, the figure in the foreground is in focus, whereas the boarder in the background is very out of focus. I would need to use a large apeture.

Although he is out of focus, the edges of the boarder as quite sharp, you can see little movement and he is frozen, so the shutter speed of this image must be quite fast.

This photo is taken on a bright clear day and the image is not very grainy also there is both a stationary and a moving subject. The lighting and stationary subject would require a low ISO. The moving subject would require me to use a higher ISO setting but as I'm using a large apature and I will have a fast shutter speed, the main issue is with lighting. As this is an outside shot it will be bright so I will use a small ISO of about 200.

The first photo is exposed correctly for Nadia's face- The background is bleached.

The second photo is exposed for the background- Nadia is dark.

The second photo is exposed for the background, using a flash. This fills in the light on Nadia's face, cause the whole photo to be exposed.

In a darkened room I used the light on my phone and a long exposure to demonstrate the effect of rear and front curtain flashes.

When the flash goes off at the start of the exposure (curtain flash), you can see the phone in it's starting position and the light comes afterwards.

When the flash goes off at the end of the exposure (rear curtain flash), you can see the light and then the phone in its finishing position.

Starting at a shutter speed of 1/60 I took a photo every 3 settings untill 1/1000 to demonstrate movement.

The faster the shutter speed, the less movement is visible i the image. When the shutter speed is slow, there is some blur due to movement.

Another aperture excersise. This time I took a photo every 3 aperture settings from F22 to F6.3

for this series i set the ISO to 800 and changed the aperture of the camera, but I also changed the shutter speed to compensate and keep the photos correctly exposed.

When the aperture number is lower, more light is allowed into the camera as the shutter is wider. The background is more out of focus.

When the aperture number in higher, less light is allowed into the camera as the shutter is smaller. The background is more in focus.

This time, I set the ISO to 800 and manually changed the aperture and shutter speed to be correst for this setting.

Leaving my camera on these aperture and shutter speed settings I took photos on different ISO settings.

On a higher ISO more light is let in so the image is less well exposed.

With my camera on Auto, I took a series of photos of Jamie talking whilst changing the ISO.

You can see that the higher the ISO, the more grainy the photo is because it is more sensitive to light.

I printed these images on A3

The photo of the skateboard was simply too striking not to use. I have coupled it with another image or a skateboarder which is a very simple image alllowing the colours and vibrancy of the skateboard to really stand out to the viewer.

these images work well together because of the lighting. Also, they were taken on the same ramp. I love how in one image the subject is skating towards the camera and in the other the subject is riding away. It gives a feeling of movement which is obviously a large part of these sports.

I feel the rebelious pose of the skate boarder in this image an the rebelious nature of graffiti as an art form make these images work well together. The lighting in the top picture is very is interesting. I love how it lights up the skater's back leaving his face shroaded in darkness.

I printed this image on A3

These photos work well together because of the lighting as subject. I love the depth of field of the top image. The show really stands out, however the shadows in the background look really beautiful. I cropped the bottom image taking inspriation from this photo seen at the Museum of London.

I put these images together because they show a simlar sky. The bottom picture is cropped to a thin image as this is where the action in the photo was taking place and the rest could be seen as unnecesary.

In these images I love how you can only see silhouettes against the sky, this gives an air of mystery.

Introduction

My summer project is a street photography project Read more My aim is too show teenage culture through my photography by exploring the pastimes of my friends. Such as basketball and skate boarding.My photos have mostly had the levels adjusted as the exposure was not perfect. In some photos I also changed the contrast to make the subject stand out.I have presented my photos in pairs of different sizes as I felt the thinner image would enhance the larger, better image. I chose photos which went well together but were not necesarily of the same subject so the pieces would not look boring.I found the bright colours and candid nature of Bryan Villard's Street photography quite inspiring. His page states "You can define street photography as scenes that can probably never be recreated again. These photos will mainly involve random people." I find this a very interesting way to look at it and although I do know most of my subjects, many of the images I have taken seem to be as if they are unaware of my presence and most certainly can never be recreated.During the summer project I have really enjoyed working with people in my photos and would love to continue with portraits or similar. However I can see myself growing tired of Street Photography as a genre.
