“MAYBE HE will; you never know,” daisy smiled. it really was sweet how much gabe cared about ethan. she didn’t know another guy who loved his siblings just as fiercely. daisy nodded in response to his question. “yep. the things rich people do, eh?” she asked, shaking her head a little. it truly was quite bonkers when she thought about it. then he explained that he wanted a smaller get-together and daisy understood. he had never really been the type of person to enjoy making a big deal out of everything. “being perfect is overrated,” she offered. “but the way you went about with it… it was pretty perfect, in my opinion.” it was everything she had fantasized about… except for the fact that he didn’t propose to her. but that didn’t matter. the only thing that mattered was that he was happy. she frowned a little, canting her head to the side. “what do you mean you can’t enjoy it? like… you just need time to enjoy being engaged first, before doing the wedding planning stuff?” she asked curiously.
gabe never understood how people could spend so much on something like that. it shouldn’t be like that. but maybe that was just him who thought it was all something to be on a lesser scale. it should be just for the couple. not for the spectacle of it all. “people really do the most just because they can. even if i had that kind of money i don’t think i’d ever want to do something like that.” gabriel shook his head at the thought of pulling something like that off. he’d have much rather the proposal just been the two of them and then going to a party. to have all these people witness everything had been so much added pressure for him, but maybe it had been okay. gia had said yes, right? so that was something. he nodded his head at daisy’s words, “thanks. mari helped me prepare everything for tonight, so i think some of the credit goes to her for how that all turned out. she got a lot of the practice speech beforehand.” he spoke about it with a little bit of a laugh in his tone, knowing how critical mari had been of his nervousness and how helpful his younger sister had been too. he shrugged his shoulders, shuffling his hands into the pocket of his pants as he walked, “i dunno. i thought we’d be engaged for a while. spend time being just us before going into all that wedding planning stuff, but gia apparently has books and plans and all this stuff already.” gabe explained, shaking his head. “i guess it shouldn’t be a big deal, but i was kind of looking forward to being engaged and not rushing to the whole getting married part of it all.”
