awokenprincess:
“S’not that different. I mean, to me, the way you talk sounds funny,” Ronja countered, folding her arms over her chest. She might be a Princess, but she was also a teenager; it was hard for the former to overcome the latter. “The way you say words that end in ‘e’ and ‘r’ sound fuckin’ weird, and I dunno how you get your mouth to do that.”
She could feel the looks as well, though most of them were pointed to the Guardian in front of her, so she largely ignored them. He wasn’t actually being a nuisance. If anything, this was amusing, and any form amusement was welcome to the girl.
“My accent isn’t that weird… is it?” she asked, a little frown creasing her brow. “I would’ve thought other Awoken at the Tower had an accent like mine. Just what comes from speaking Reeftongue.”
“ Well, like I said, I’ve heard worse. Not to say different accents’re worse, just saying that it’s pretty hard to distinguish what words they’re saying, y’know?? ” Harlequin shrugged, his optics gazing at the surrounding people, making some of them look away and act as if they were minding their business. Whether they were doing so or not, he didn’t cared nor did it matter.
What did matter is that he just noticed that most Awoken from the Reef have the same accent, to which he wondered if there was someone who spoke with such an accent that had an influence on them other than the Queen, who is most likely dead or something.
“ There are different accents from different people back on Earth too. Ya got Irish, French, British, Southern... Er, I forgot the rest, but that’s just from the top of my head, ” he spoke, waving his hands around as if he was emphasising his words into actions. “ Although there’s one accent I heard once, and it wasn’t really an accent. More like a buncha weird dialects and lingos, I dunno. ”
