lordofthegoldenflower:
“You have fun,” Glorfindel instructed warmly, still smiling. He settled onto the ground at the base of the tree and stretched his legs out in front of him. He leaned back, arms tucked behind his head so he could relax as he watched the elfling as she frolicked above him.
“Just call out for me if you need anything!” he hollered up at her.
Holly spends some time examining the tree by climbing on it. After awhile she begins to climb back down, satisfied that the tree is indeed good for climbing on.
Only a few feet from the bottom her grip fails and, hard as she tries, she can no longer hold on. She makes a yelp as she falls and lands on the ground.
Still she gets up quickly, apparently uninjured.
Starting to feel better. I did not expect that.
I am not entirely back, but I will try to be on at least once a week.
You can disregard my last post.
Not sure if anyone is still following this blog. However you can consider it no longer in use do to a combination of health reasons and other factors.
If you want to get in touch with me I roleplay over at @untouchable-lightning as a supervillain OC.
It was good while it lasted!
lordofthegoldenflower:
“I am afraid that I will keep my feet on the ground, my friend,” Glorfindel said, ruffling her hair again. He looked up at the trees and felt his heartrate begin to pick up at the thought of climbing up there. “I have to confess that I am not a large fan of heights. But please, don’t let that stop you from climbing up there and enjoying the trees to your heart’s content.”
“Oh.” Holly looks a little disappointed. “If you are sure.”
Approaching a tree Ariel looks at it consideringly then she begins to climb up it. She has to halt a few times, but she eventually manages to find her way up an onto a branch. If she could see better she would be impressed by the view. As it is she just likes the feeling of being up high.
lordofthegoldenflower:
For a moment, Glorfindel saw the curiosity in Holly’s eyes, and he started to mentally prepare himself to tell her more about Ecthelion. Then she became distracted by the mention of trees and he relaxed again.
“Then follow me, and I’ll show you the patch of trees I always had to drag the twins out of,” he said with a grin. He started toward the back of the gardens where they met the forest at the edge of the main grounds. “You can come out here to see the trees as often as you’d like while you stay with us.”
Ariel is confused when Glorfindel seems- maybe concerned or tense? But once again she is distracted by following him to the back of the gardens. She looks up at the trees happily. “Would you like to climb one of them with me?” she asks lightly.
lordofthegoldenflower:
“He really is. I miss him dearly, but I’m looking forward to when we meet again. I am sure we will have many tales and laughs to share once more,” Glorfindel said, a far away look in his eyes. After a moment, his thoughts came back to the present, and offered Holly a smile.
He reached over to ruffle her hair fondly. “I’m glad you like it. This is one of my favorite spots in the whole valley,” he confessed easily. “Now. Didn’t you want to see some good climbing trees?”
When Glorfindel ruffles her hair Holly lets out a happy, but slightly scratchy sounding laugh. She thinks she is too old for such things, but cannot bring herself to mind it when people taller than her do it.
She wants to ask more about his friend, but such thoughts are driven out of her mind when he mentions the trees. “Yes! I love climbing trees.” And she rarely gets too do it. Usually only when playing with some of the braver of her nieces and nephews.
lordofthegoldenflower:
“Fountains it is then!” Glorfindel declared, holding the door to the dining hall open for Holly, pointing her down the right direction before he joined her in walking down the hallway. “I’m taking you to one of my favorite spots in all of Imladris. It’s breath taking.”
It didn’t take long for them to walk out into a courtyard that overlooked the Bruinen with a view of a waterfall in the distance and a large, decorative fountain. “I come here when I want to feel close to my best friend, Ecthelion.”
“It is so pretty!” Holly is stunned by the beauty of the fountain. Her vision is not good enough to see the waterfall or the Bruinen from where they are, but she can definitely hear them.
She smiles up at him. “Your friend must be really special if something so pretty makes you think of them!”
lordofthegoldenflower:
Glorfindel gave the elfling another gentle smile before draining his glass of water and rising from the table. “Of course I can show you around! Where would you like to see first?” he asked gently. “We have almost anything you might think a place would have. Like stables, gardens, a library, and fountains…Anything sound interesting?”
Following his lead Holly stands up also. “I would like to see the fountains, please?” Holly smiles brightly back at him, the scars across her face bending with the movement. She is eager and ready to follow him around. Everything seems so exciting to her.
lordofthegoldenflower:
As soon as he noticed the elfling’s eating had slowed down, Glorfindel leaned against the table, propping his head on his hand. “You don’t have to eat everything if you’re full,” he pointed out kindly. “Dinner will be in a few hours, so there’s just enough time to run around a bit so you’re hungry again.”
That sounds like a good idea to Holly. She sets her utensils down and turns towards Glorfindel. “I think I will wait to eat more until dinner then.” The little elfling seems to have lost a bit of her innate perkiness. “You were talking about showing me around. Once you are done eating can we please do that?” But nothing keeps a little thing like her down for long.
lordofthegoldenflower:
“That’s why it is always important to stay with your group when you are traveling, and don’t go alone unless you are really sure of where you are going,” Glorfindel said seriously. It was too easy for a single person wandering alone to get lost and stumble across trouble without anyone knowing what had happened to them. Then he saw the fear in her eyes, the old pain and he relaxed into a gentle smile.
“But that is something you shouldn’t worry about right now. You all made it here just fine and I am going to show you around so you won’t get lost while you’re visiting us. I can even show you where to find me if you need anything.”
“Thank you.” The elfling is more somber now as the memories continue to play through her head. It was a good thing her adoptive mother had found her when she did. The little elfling does not like to think about what could have happened otherwise.
Looking down at the food Holly seems to have lost her appetite. But, knowing that she will need the energy for later, she keeps eating, although at a much slower rate.
lordofthegoldenflower:
“I promise that I am enjoying my food,” Glorfindel answered seriously, taking a bite from his plate. When he had swallowed it down, he offered the elfling another smile. “I just ate not too long ago, so this is more of a snack for me. I don’t want to ruin my appetite for when they make our desserts later.”
“You should see me when I return from a journey. I can eat so much food! One time I ate like five heaping plates full,” he confided in her with a little wink. “I had gotten lost half way here, so I ran out of supplies, and I was real hungry by the time I got home.”
“Oh.” Appeased, the elfling turns back to her own food. It is hard to imagine someone like Glorfindel eating five plates of food. But she has been hungry enough before that she has tried to do the same after roughhousing with her older brothers.
“Being lost is not fun. I always worry whenever I lose sight of my group when we are traveling.” Being lost sends her into memories of how she first met her family. How cold and tired and just hurt she had been. She shivers at the thought.
lordofthegoldenflower:
The elfling ate with all the enthusiasm of the young, bringing another smile to GLorfindel’s face. It was easy to be happy as well as amused when he was spending time with a child. It was so much easier than being locked up in his office working on paperwork and his other duties for the rest of the day.
“Are you enjoying your meal?” he asked, just watching.
After a minute Holly notices that Glorfindel does not seem to be eating his food, at least not as quickly as she is. “I like the food a lot!” And in truth she does enjoy it very much. Almost as much as she enjoys food from home that her adoptive mother has cooked.
The little elfling frowns. “Are you not going to enjoy yours?”
lordofthegoldenflower:
“I’m sure I could ask around and maybe convince him to stay for a time. After all, it would give you all the chance to catch up on sleep that I know got lost along the road, and repair damage that happens to equipment with use. It is restful here in the Valley, and we have many skilled craftsmen that can assist,” Glorfindel said easily.
“But for now, let me know when you have filled your belly, and we’ll head out to find those trees for you to climb.”
“It has been awhile since we made repairs,” The little elfling allows. “And we made less than normal since we were in such of a hurry. We likely do need to take some time to properly fix everything up.” She nods to herself. “I do not remember the last time we had to travel so fast. And I have been with the group for a long time!”
But with his words comes the reminder to eat. After saying her words she turns to tuck into her food.
lordofthegoldenflower:
“I think I can manage to convince them to make berry pie for you. One of the apprentice cooks makes the absolute best pie I have ever tasted in my whole life,” Glorfindel confessed seriously. “I only hope that your group will be staying with us long enough that you will be able to taste more of the sweet things our cooks make than just one pie and one cake. I’m sure you’ll enjoy your stay with us.”
“That would be very nice of you! Thank you!” Berry pie was not a common treat for the elfling. The idea of getting it makes her so excited that she barely keeps herself from bouncing in her seat.
“I do not know how long we will be staying though. You would need to ask the boss about that. But with how much of a hurry we were in to get here I think it should be at least a couple of days.” The little elfling frowns in thought.
lordofthegoldenflower:
“I will make sure to pass your compliments onto the cooks,” Glorfindel returned with a grin. It was always good to see a little one eating so enthusiastically, especially when they looked as small as this one did. He just wanted to help take care of her whilst this group was in Imladris.
“My favorite food would have to be chocolate cake,” he answered, without even having to pause to think about it. “I would eat a whole meal of chocolate cake if I could. What about you? What is your favorite food? Maybe I can sweet talk the cooks into making it for you while you visit.”
Looking up from the food the little elfling’s features contort as she thinks very hard about the question. There are so many foods, It is hard to pick just one! After a few moments thought she comes to a decision. “I like berry pie. I think it is the tastiest food.” She tilts her head. “But chocolate cake sounds good too. I like most sweet things.”
lordofthegoldenflower:
“You’re very welcome,” he said warmly, smiling as she perked up like that. It was such an easy offer for him to make. He loved spending time with children and putting smiles on their faces always warmed his heart. Maybe while they talked he would be able to find out more about the child.
“We can start as soon as you finish eating. But take your time eating, we have plenty of it.”
“I will!” Holly nods happily. Being raised by hobbits, while having a somewhat odd result on the elf, was responsible for her love of food. “It looks very good!” Taking another bite she adds, “It tastes good too!”
From the looks of it, the little elfling has no intention of stopping until she is full. And with the hard work she has done that might be awhile. Still, she tries to make conversation while she eats. “What is your favorite food?”
