Puddle Varieties: Pool Edition!

Loosely based around the OC Puddle by @lopbunnyboy this is an idea I had on how different sentient water could appear based on what body of water they came from. These designs are based on the bodies of waters classified as Pools

Vernal pools, also known as ephermal pools are the only known temporary pool with its own distinctive flora and animals. Due to a variety of humankind’s interference, vernal pools are endangered habitats now protected by federal law. So far, there have been no successful manmade vernal pools, but hopefully those that remain and reappear year after year will be able to keep up the wonderful abundance of life unique to them.

Tide Pools are shallow bodies of sea water sometimes only present at low-tides. These exerts from the ocean are usually teeming with hardy life from the ocean quick to adapt to a variety of conditions. There are a lot of unique tide pools in the world!

Swimming Pools are manmade constructs that are meant for recreational swimming, both privately and publically. The difference between swimming pools and natural pools is that swimming pools are not maintained by organic lifeforms and are treated with chemicals to prevent organisms for using them as breeding grounds.

Stream Pools are areas in streams (or rivers) where the water depth is high, and the water velocity is low. These pools are instrumental to biological lifeforms with difficulty feeding and swimming; typically used for newborn and juvenile fish.

Reflecting Pools ae manmade pools meant specifically to cast reflection of the world around them. They are designed to not be able to form strong wave activity and are commonly found in parks, gardens, or memorials.

Plunge Pools are a variety of Stream Pools formed at the bottom of waterfalls. Created by constant high erosion due to the velocity of water, some plunge pools don’t have any water in them at all.

Spent Fuel Pools are manmade pools where components of nuclear reactors are sent to cool before either being repurposed or scrapped. Although potentially dangerous due to the risk of radiation via mass evaporation, very little catastrophes have resulted from damaged pool systems.

Natural Pools are self-filtering, often manmade pools usually used for recreational swimming. First invented in the 1800s in Austria, even though these pools don’t rely on harsh chemicals to stay ‘clean’ they still do require maintenance to control algae growth.

Brine pools form at the bottom of the ocean where salt pools into brine, and has a density up to eight times greater than the surrounding ocean. Salt, brine, and methane are  the most common components of brine pools, and while no known organic life lives in the brine pools, their shores are home to a variety of deep-sea mollusks

Anchialine Pools are land-locked bodies of water with underwater cave systems that lead to the ocean. Unique to Anchilaline Pools are shellfish and certain species of bline cave fish.

Anchialine Puddle is a playful explorer who is especially adept at getting in and out of tight places.
