What do you feel about the famous scene- Darcy holding Lizzie's hand without the gloves in "Pride and Prejudice" 2005 movie?

I'm pretty sure the famous part is the hand flex (second GIF), which beautifully established Darcy's suppressed love for Elizabeth. It works very well.

It reminds me a lot of scenes in Asian dramas where someone clutches their clothes to show the audience but not the other characters their emotional tension:

Anyway, to answer the question, my feelings are the general opinion: that was hot. Give me 1000 hand flexes! They are sexier than sex scenes. The tension! The unspoken feelings! The Romance!

My favorite scenes in the LotR books are the ones where Legolas has vital information and just decides it's not important to share.

I don't know if this is rude, but I'm sick and it's snowing and it's been annoying me, so let me tell you all everything wrong with this post. Or let me explain why you shouldn't believe everything you see on the internet.

This happens exactly once in all six of Jane Austen's novels and her novella, Lady Susan. The novel is Pride & Prejudice. Emma ends in three marriages but they are months apart. Sense & Sensibility ends in one marriage, another occurs two years later (Lucy's marriage to Robert Ferrars doesn't count because it's not between sisters or friends). Northanger Abbey has two marriages, but Elinor Tilney's marriage to Lord Laundry List is what allows the main couple to marry, indicating they didn't happen at the same time. Lady Susan ends in a daughter and mother being married not at the same time and they certainly don't love each other. Mansfield Park ends in one solitary marriage.

Persuasion is slightly tricky because Louisa & Henrietta Musgrove and Anne Elliot are all getting married and they are both sisters and friends, but there is no indication these marriages happened at the same time or location. Anne's marriage most likely happened very rapidly given that Captain Wentworth is about to go to war (the novel ends the day Napoleon escapes from exile).

Also, super common in general for novels of this type to end in multiple marriages so I don't think it says anything specific about Jane Austen, especially since it only happened once. Like The Importance of Being Earnest ends in two brothers getting married around the same time probably, did Oscar Wilde want this for himself??? I doubt it.

How can someone reduce such a brilliant female writer with a random assumption?

I don't know what Jane Austen's deepest unfulfilled wishes were but I wish she had the opportunity to see and taste the success of her work. To this day her novels are getting made into series and movies. Her formulas and ideas are still used in series and movies across many countries and cultures.

im quite put out that the mary bennett show sucks because i think in theory a show or book focusing on mary could be quite fun. because shes the most removed from p&p plot, it would be fun to have that in the background while mary is having her own romance plot non of the others really notice because they are busy with p&p (kind of like Mary Millward in ttowh). maybe it even isnt noticeable that its p&p happening in the background until like wickham and lydia elope. but it does require one to have care and respect for the original work, which that show has shown it hasnt

To have a good show or book about Mary Bennet, one must accept who she is, warts and all:

She is not intelligent, she's trying to use book reading to distinguish her from her sisters but there is a reason she doesn't know what to say when asked.

Her quotations and speeches are often wildly socially inappropriate.

She tries to set herself apart from "other girls" by tearing other women down. It's not nice.

She displays almost no empathy for anyone during the novel, going as far as to use her fallen sister as an object lesson

She's not a shy wallflower, she runs to display her accomplishments in front of others. She's a show-off

All of these traits could be improved as Mary matures and steps out of the shadow of her sisters, but you have to start with what she is in canon and what she is sucks. That's why you do a growth arc.

Accurate ASF! Exactly the reasons why I didn’t even consider watching "The Other Bennet Sister". Mary Bennet may not be the worst character but she is hella annoying with her moral policing and the pride of knowing better than everyone when in actual she has no idea what is she talking about. When the trailer showed someone saying to Mary that "She was a radical thinker." I literally slapped my forehead. Mary Bennet was the most conservative character and so narrow minded. If you want a radical thinking heroine in the Regency Period then go ahead and make a character and fiction up. Why use Pride and Prejudice? For me Kitty is a much more redeemable and relatable character for spin offs. She was the one who was truly the ignored middle child.

I am giving a peak to my analysis on this below but I'm sure you'll be able to give a much better opinion backed by your critical observations of the show if you choose to respond to it.

B. Given that they had eloped says a lot about their passionate spontaneous marriage. Even at this age they are a pretty spirited couple with unfiltered responses to each other, Therefore I've no doubt they had an amazing sex life in their prime. So YES!! mama would've totally done it.

E. Hell yes!! Nk is fun, emotionally available and super romantic guy. He will do anything to make his tarikh/partner feel special. As long as he doesn’t utter any broken hindi and turn off his girl's mood, he's gonna show her a good time.

D. I am skeptic about Akash. He had it easy in his love life and so might not put in the effort. Payal and Akash are a far healthier couple than others in the show but I personally haven't witnessed a scene that says they have perfect understanding of each other. Mami's constant interruptions may also affect their private times. I think Akash would need much time and space to get there with payal. So going to the US by the end of the show might just be the best thing for their relationship.

A. Nope. Shyam only wants to please himself so I don’t think he would umpromted. But if encouraged he'd have to because well, he needs to impress Rani saiba. As Anjali spoke so fondly of Shyam every time she talks about love and marriage to Khushi, It made me think Shyam was prolly good to Anjali. Other than that I'm not sure, Shyam-Anjali intimacy issue is quite unsettling to me.

C. OBVIO!! Arnav with his experience, passion,  and magnetic attraction towards Khushi, going down is inevitable. Their journey began with LUST, they really match their freak, they have been through it all, so their intimacy would progress faster with all the longing they had for each other. When Khushi pulled back from Arnav's kiss,  Arnav carries her to bed, turns off the lights and asks "Ab thik hai?" is a testament to Arnav's understanding of Khushi's comfort and pleasure. I should add that Khushi is the only woman among the Raizada women I see going down and it's not because of the Namak ishq ka performance. Khushi always tries to be an equal to Arnav and it's not limited to their challenges. When Arnav comes to the temple for her, she takes him on an expensive date to Purple Orchid. If he pulls the chair for her,  she'd go pull the chair for him too. If Arnav danced on a salman song for her, she'd become an item girl for him as well. So if Arnav is going down, she's going too.

Actually I follow a lot Regency and Victorian era british novel fandoms where I've seen these types of questions and I thought its applicable to IPKKND too. Both genres keep the matters of sexual abilities and lust subtle and keeps us guessing.]

So coming to going down... I can only think of Arnav & NK.

NK is a sweetheart and comes across as a guy who's going to explore as many things as possible to please and have a fun time with his partner.

With Arnav - absolutely! Although I do feel as a couple they rush in chunks when it comes to feelings/emotions/actions. So I can imagine them trying to manage their trust work in terms of literal physicality. And of course Khushi would reciprocate - but more as a part of her exploration and less of 'I should do this cause he did this'. I find that part of their relationship quite endearing that when it comes to sex he comes across as someone who studies her and she's always exploratory.

Shyam is ugggghhhhh. He'll do whatever to satisfy his desires. And he's a psycho so I can't even imagine.

Akash... how that bro and Payal manage anything in that brightly pink room or with Mami breathing over their necks is beyond me. They literally have had better sex and explored things once in USA and I know it for sure.

In January 1813, Pride and Prejudice, the second published novel but third to be written by Jane Austen, was first published in England. The novel was published anonymously, by the author of Sense and Sensibility. Austen received 100 pounds for giving away the publication rights; she had asked for 150. In 1813, the very year of the first pablication, the novel was already translated to French and German, Danish and Swedish and published in those languages. In the US it was first published in 1832, under the title of Elizabeth Bennet, mostly. Austen wrote the first draft of the book at the age of 20-21 ,the original title was First Impressions. Later on, between 1811-1812, at the age of 36-37, she had re-written the draft and re-named it. The novel was well received, with three favorable reviews in the first months following publication. Austen for her part thought that "the playfuless and epigrammaticism" of Pride and Prejudice was excessive, complaining in a letter to her sister Cassandra in 1813 that the novel lacked "shade" and should have had " a chapter of "solemn specious nonsense, about something unconnected with the story; an essay on writing, a critique on Walter scott or the history of Buonapartè."

Walter Scott wrote in his journal, "Read again and for the third time at least, miss Austen's very finely written novel of Pride and Prejudice."

I actually became a fan of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon years after it originally aired — around 2018-2019. When it was first on TV, I was still in sixth grade and that used to be my "study time." Daily soaps weren’t really my thing anyway. My mom, though, A full-time drama correspondent. She watched religiously and kept me updated on all the chaos whether I asked or not.

I finally sat down to watch it on Hotstar after someone mentioned it had a bit of a Pride & Prejudice vibe. The chemistry between Arnav and Khushi was just electric. Completely dramatic, totally filmy, sometimes ridiculous…

That said, if we’re talking overall writing and execution, I’d still say Zindagi Gulzar Hai had the edge. It felt more grounded and leaned harder into social commentaries, which made it feel closer in spirit to Austen’s kind of storytelling. But when it comes to pure romantic chemistry and iconic moments, IPK absolutely wins. Arnav and Khushi just had that spark💥

I've noticed in that take a more nuanced/sympathetic take on Caroline Bingley will sometimes pair her up Colonel Fritzwilliam.

Would regency society actually be okay with this?

While Colonel Fritzwilliam is a second son, he is second son of a Viscount, the spare in case the worst should happen to the heir.

From my admittedly really rudimentary understanding of Regency class, Caroline Bingley is definitely(at least?) a rank or two beneath Colonel Fritzwilliam.

Quick correction: Colonel Fitzwilliam is the son of an earl. Also, though I don't have evidence for this, I wager his older brother already has kids given that Col. F is around thirty, so his chance of inheriting is probably extremely low at this point. the younger son of his uncle, Lord ——... I think that means only two sons.

To the question! At this time, the nobility and older families of the gentry needed money and those in "trade" were making massive fortunes. It was therefore becoming more common for trade heiresses to marry into the higher ranks of society. The Bingley family seems to have prepared for this by giving the daughters very good educations, we see Caroline displaying all of the accomplishments that the Bennet family are lacking.

I don't think it would have been a big deal for Caroline to marry either Mr. Darcy or Colonel Fitzwilliam. She has a large fortune, a good education, and her family background appears to be acceptable. We do not know the exact origins of the Bingley family or how or when the trade money was acquired, but we do know they are moving just fine into higher circles. They have "made it."
