"It's not temporary magic," Eddie explained. "It's going to be as permanent as any tattoo."
The potential customer -- Steve -- nodded curtly, perfunctorily. "Yeah, I'd hope so. I want this thing gone, man. Who wants to be a monster once a month?"
"Shapeshifting doesn't make you a mons--"
"Oh, fuck off with that! I've been to the mandatory therapy," he scoffed. "No one wants an out of control wolf. I've got a new stepsister now, Max. She came to check on me, and I nearly took the door of the cage off."
"Cages don't help," Eddie said.
"Cages help me not kill someone," Steve shot back. "Do you know what it's like to wake up not knowing what you've done, if you've hurt someone? You think I want to get this as part of my manslaughter sentencing instead?"
"I get it. Feeling out of control sucks, but--"
"Oh, you 'get it'? I don't *feel* out of control. I *am* out of control--"
"You aren't," Eddie said. "You're trapped. No wolf is sane when they're caged. And yes, I get it. My dad thought a cage would fix me too. When that didn't work, he tried magic."
Eddie tugged the neck of his shirt down, showing the scarring where his own tattoo had been burned off a week after he turned eighteen.
"Don't go to therapy," Eddie said. "Come to us."
