The Hour that Never Was really is one of their best. Steed goes from being kind of carefree and having a good time to getting more worried and finally to just about losing it when Emma vanishes. It’s very subtle and works the tension really well.
This one is actually my favourite episode.
It’s almost a short film. Really well paced and shot, and I like that the first twenty minutes are almost entirely the two leads interacting. It could be watched without the viewer knowing who Steed and Mrs. Peel are, since there’s a bit of exposition there at the beginning.
One of the most beautiful screengrabs of Patrick and Diana. Bonus points for dude realizing he's being third wheeled into oblivion by Steed and Emma.
I think this is a behind the scenes shot isn't it? So that's really the expression on Peter Bowles' face, which says, "I'm just going to pretend I haven't seen that the two of you are completely in love with each other."
One of my favorite British actors........has anyone read his autobiography? Does he say anything about working with Patrick and Diana? He was in 3 episodes of the Avengers.
“The most memorable part of acting in The Avengers was the grace, good manners and charm of Patrick Macnee. Despite working horrendous hours, continually working on the scripts, and suffering at times a difficult personal life, his standards both in friendship and acting never wavered.” (Bowles, Ask Me If I’m Happy, 137)
Bowles says nothing substantive about his work with either Honor Blackman or Diana Rigg, alas, although he does mention them in connection with The Avengers.
The phrase "get a room" was invented for these two. She looks him up and down, as he approaches. Then she places her hands on her chest, which, in body language terms, is a gesture of truth, or honesty and she asks this man (someone she trusts with her life) to appraise her body and tell her everything is back to normal. Somehow, he manages to make this appraisal both sensual and respectful. Then they're caught in that 'smiling at one another' loop, which another character has to snap them out of. It's a wonder Britain wasn't taken over by diabolical masterminds, the amount of time these two spent flirting.
Just gonna leave this here. No particular reason.
John Steed and Emma Peel, “The Avengers" (1968)
Posted by @TimeLordDrew61 on Twitter, in a magazine. I hadn't seen this one before, from the "come here Patrick and let me molest you" photoshoot, on the set of what I believe was The Gravediggers. Even when they're an arm's length apart, she can't help touching him.
I really think he was a big support for her.
For two people who aren’t a couple they sure are the couple-y-ist couple in the history of couples, like in all time. Jeeeeeezus already 🙄 fuckin’ jerks🤬.
Poor Steed is so distracted.
One of my favorite little moments.
In an AU where season 4 of the Emma Peel series exists. 😍😢 <sigh>
I don't think I'll ever get over how intimate these pictures are. Her hand goes from his shoulder, to touching his face, to stroking the back of his neck. Meanwhile his hand... well 🧐. In the black and white picture (I couldn't find a decent colour version) it looks like he has his thumb on her hip, which somehow seems even more physical, as if he's squeezing, or stroking her waist. And the way they're angled towards one another. Tell me again how these two were just friends.
Pretty much every time they’re photographed together, they seem so relaxed with one another.
The way she looked at him though 😍🥰😭
Every time I see this scene, I expect her to kiss him before she leaves.
There's really only ONE way this image can be interpreted. But how dare we suggest they had any type of relationship other than coworker or "just friends".🙄 Puleeeeez, miss me with that mess mmmk
steed: i really want to kiss you right now
emma: omg yes please kiss me right now
Find yourself someone who looks at you the way these two looked at each other.
There's no way you adopt those expressions with someone unless you adore them, body and soul. Somewhere, there's a universe where there was no new wife and no controlling boyfriend and these two didn't feel the need to conduct their relationship in secret. Somewhere, there's also a universe where Steed and Emma stayed together and are #relationshipgoals.
It looks like he's saying something to her and she's just...gone.
Very normal and natural way to stand near a platonic work colleague.
I've noticed something new, during this scene from The £50,000 Breakfast. And it's not just that there's an almost kiss and Steed sniffs Mrs Peel's hair. After this, they're talking and Emma asks Steed if he's seen that morning's Times. He hasn't. But, after she's read out the name of Litoff's Niece, he says that he's already seen her name written on the pad by Mrs Peel's phone. If they weren't aware of Judy, until the morning paper, then that means they both woke up in Emma's apartment that morning, she did some investigating, while he was still asleep and he saw the name of Litoff's Niece as they left to go to his place, where they're having their morning coffee. Add to that, Emma never corrects Judy at the tie shop, when she asks her whether the tie she's buying is for a boyfriend, husband, or lover. They're so comfortable with their relationship at this point, it's practically public knowledge.
Patrick and Diana having themselves a day, a very good day!!😍👀
