Prompt #7: Serendipitous - Accidents Happen
The recipe book sat open on the other counter as the blue haired man bustled around the kitchen. Bits were all over as he worked on the new recipes. Something though wasn’t coming out quite right and it was frustrating Janlenoux to no end.
“Do you think if we try a bit more sugar and maybe some flour to thicken it,” he mused as Adelphel leaned over the pot, peering in.
“I’m not sure, you’re trying to get it to stick a bit better right?” the blonde asked as he peered up to his partner.
Janlenoux nodded as he looked at the book once more, “Yes, the plan is to coat the rolanberries in that and then swirl them with regular chocolate over top, but it’s just not working quite right. It should make them a mix of the marshmallow coating with chocolate though it’s just not coming out right.”
The paladin turned cook sighed and leaned against the counter as he watched Adelphel pop an unmelted marshmallow into his mouth. The blonde grinned at him almost sheepishly but he knew Janlenoux wouldn’t yell. Rarely had Janlenoux ever yelled at him for ‘taste testing’ the goods especially when they were trying to hash out a new recipe.
“I’ve whole trays of berries ready and the wooden sticks to skewer them with but it’s all for naught if we can’t get the marshmallow to stay on,” Janlenoux frowned.
“Hmmm,” Adelphel murmured as he tilted his head, deep in thought. Janlenoux looked over before he moved to the rack near the stove, maybe something there would yield an idea. As he reached out to touch one of the small jars he watched Adelphel grab something from the cupboard and plop it into the pot.
Words died on Janlenoux’s tongue as he looked on in shock. Finally he pulled himself from his stupor to ask, “What did you do? What did you put in there?”
Slowly the blonde stirred it before he beamed up at Janlenoux, “The grated white chocolate you had left from before. It’ll mix and make it stickier but still dry ‘solid’ right? Then you can drizzle the chocolate without worry. Right?”
Janlenoux blinked for a moment as if trying to determine if that would even work. He shook his head, “In theory? We’ll have to try it.”
With care he prepared one of the skewers with three of the strawberries impaled on it. The two coated it with the marshmallow and chocolate mix and propped it to dry. Soon enough it was drizzled with chocolate and another exactly like the first sat next to it.
“Well, shall we try them?” Adelphel beamed and Janlenoux felt impressed he’d waited long enough for the second to even be made.
Janlenoux nodded and the two each took a skewer. With a bit of trepidation Jan bit in while Adelphel went to town on his. Surprisingly it worked wonderfully and tasted even better. The two beamed at each other before finishing their respective treats.
“Well I suppose we’ll need to order more of the white chocolate then if we’re going to roll this out for the holidays,” Janlenoux chuckled as Adelphel was already jotting down a ‘shopping list’ for them when next they went to get supplies. Before he could finish though arms wound around him and a peck was pressed to his cheek, “Thank you Adelphel. You have my sincere appreciation.”
The blonde beamed before he turned to return the gesture and chuckle, “So that means you’ll make me a batch of my own yes?”
