Senses Lights: Look&See

Vision is the sense you trust most. It is also the one you question least. LOOK&SEE is the second work in the Senses Lights series. It askes you to engage in what is presented to you. We point our eyes at the world and it returns an image. What wee see can be something completely different. An act of attention, interpretation and recognition that transforms what is looked at. The light arrives before the words do. We look first, and only afterwards, if we make the effort, we see. A question that is easy to read yet less easy to answer.

Senses Lights: Hear&Listen

Sound is all around you. You cannot switch it off, you cannot look away from it. Of all the senses, hearing is the one the world imposes on you most completely. HEAR & LISTEN is the first work in the Senses Lights series. It is where the journey begins. Two words we treat as synonyms, yet they diiffer. Hearing is passive, automatic, the ear receives what the environment provides. Listening is deliberate, a choice to concentrate, to transform raw sound into meaning. By fusing the two into one illuminated form, the work asks you to actually listen to what you are hearing. The light reaches you before the words do. We perceive before we interpret. We hear before we listen. The object enacts exactly what it describes. 3D-printed PETG with internal LED illumination. 81 × 30 × 7 cm. Unique artwork.

Six senses. Six word pairs. Six illuminated sculptures.

Introducing Senses Lights, a complete series of conceptual wall sculptures, each one built around word combinations from my Senses Project. HEAR&LISTEN. LOOK&SEE. SMELL&SCENT. TASTE&SAVOUR. TOUCH&FEEL. LEARN&KNOW. Each piece takes its pair and fuses them into a single 3D-printed, LED-lit typographic form. The shapes collapse into one another. To understand them, you have to pull them apart, go one level deeper than what you see. That act of engagement, that moment of reflection, is the work. The light reaches you before the words do. The words reach you before the meaning does. That sequence is intentional. Hearing is not the same as listening. Looking is not the same as seeing. The differences are small. That is precisely the point. Six unique artworks. Dropping one by one, starting this Wednesday.

Senses Calpe 01

A conceptual view of Calpe and a location based artwork, it explores the layered identity of Calpe through the pairing Look&See. The surface is constructed using impressions from old fishing nets, referencing the town’s fishing history and its enduring connection to the Mediterranean Sea. Fields of blue represent water, movement, depth and even small fish or their scales. Meanwhile the yellow glow above suggests the coastal sun. Red and yellow accents refer to both the Spanish and Valencian flags, embedding the artwork within its cultural and regional context. Fragments of the city logo emerge only faintly through the composition, partially hidden within layers of texture and gesture. These elements appear gradually, inviting a slower form of observation. The text Look&See reflects the experience of Calpe itself. Visitors look at the beaches, the boulevard and the atmosphere of a modern tourist destination, while the work encourages the viewer to see the history, labour and identity that continue to exist beneath the surface.
