it takes a moment to weigh both options, as choosing one does not discount the merit he finds in the other. he’s been lucky ( a word admittedly often used to describe him ) to have experienced a glimpse into both worlds; while he’s not the most persuasive person of those he surrounds himself with, he does know how to work a room and win others over, and while he wasn’t born wealthy, he was been able to experience a cushy upbringing towards the later years of his childhood. but if it came down to a choice between one or the other, he still thinks that he’d choose a silver spoon. there are just some things that a silver tongue cannot buy. while some may claim that money cannot buy happiness, generational wealth is in and of itself a whole separate matter. to be born with a silver spoon is to be have a network of resources and credibility in a world before you step into it, and that’s something that soohyuk does not take for granted.
even so, if he were to decide in a scenario that was not so hypothetical—that is to say, if he were choosing for himself, if he were to go back in time and start anew—he would not change anything about his current state or his past upbringing. he’d choose neither option: neither a silver spoon nor a silver tongue. sometimes the most valuable choice is relatability, which lends itself to reliability and a perceived sense of trustworthiness, even if that means giving up on having an advantage.
how many backup plans do you have at any given time ?
it depends on the scenario. in a perfect world, there would be no necessity for any backup plans, but having an evol like soohyuk’s comes with the implicit acknowledgment of life’s unpredictabilities and risks. soohyuk’s ideal plan is one that’s both well thought-out—with every branching decision and action based on the likelihood of the choice that was taken before it—and flexible enough to allow for last minute changes. of course, such a pursuit is easier said than done, especially with the unpredictable nature of battling wanderers. still, when it comes to on-field missions, soohyuk prefers the clarity of having fewer, well-fleshed-out plans rather than the chaos of having many back-up plans that depend on various contingencies. he does, however, try to account for a plan that accounts for a disaster scenario where everything goes to shit—it’s important to at least have an escape plan, even if just having one doesn’t guarantee success, and the recent loss of lives that occurred during operation pandia has only put that reminder in stark focus.
what's your most desirable trait in a partner or collaborator ?
more than any singular, specific trait, soohyuk values a mutual sense of trust. he values partnerships where his partner puts faith in his abilities as much as he can put faith in theirs. perhaps if pressed for a specific answer, he’d say competence, combined with the sort of humility that allows one to be an effective team player. while his evol does work in individual scenarios—where he works independently—soohyuk believes that it’s only as part of a partnership or within a team that its true potential can be unlocked.

introducing — im soohyuk / 28 / hexe / vice captain of team alpha. preface: i don't actually go here (lads.com), so hopefully nothing is super incongruous with the lore. pls feel free to leave a like and i'll hop into your dms :)

background.
im soohyuk is the third and youngest child of his family — and it's with his birth that his father can no longer pretend to care and finally leaves the picture. growing up goes like this. sometimes food is scarce. sometimes rent is paid a week late. sometimes their mother works two jobs or late into the night to make ends meet. then, one day, something falls into place. his mother's new position pays their bills and then some, no matter how well she performs — and she performs. she turns out to be quite good at investing. she has an uncanny ability to find a good value stock. it’s so uncanny, in fact, that the government investigates the firm she works at for insider trading on three separate occasions.
so by the time soohyuk enters college, the hardships of his upbringing is a distant memory, like trying to looking at a rearview mirror only to see a foggy backlite. like most children with a more-than-secure financial background — and a mother who toiled for years so that her children would not have to — soohyuk is encouraged to pursue his passions. he enters culinary school, where his pavlovas never crack or collapse no matter how long he whips his eggs whites for, and his puff pastries come out with perfect layers, no matter what the dough looks like when it enters the oven. it's not until his second year in culinary school, that his mother's company finds that she is an evolver — and while nothing she's done is illegal, especially when she herself had not known of her ability, she's encouraged to quietly step down from her position.
testing reveals that soohyuk is the only child of hers that ended up with her ability, and the revelation that soohyuk's good fortune was more than just a natural occurrence sends him to a bit of a tailspin. he's confronted with the two possible outcomes in his future, and stays awake at night in his dorm room turning them both over in his head until they become smooth like lake stones — either he hides his evol forever, knowing that if it were ever to come to light, all of his accomplishments would be tainted by the "advantage" he's unknowingly (and then knowingly) wielded — or he takes control of the narrative by getting ahead of it.
he's older than most of his peers when he enrolls to obtain his hunter's license, and immediately his instructors are intrigued by what his ability brings to the table in the ongoing fight against wanderers. it becomes clear that while his ability is not inherently offensive in nature, it'd be more optimal to have it on-field, rather than off of it, and he's pushed to practice longer hours in weapons training to fill any gaps and get on the field as soon as possible.
then, he joins the unicorns :)
personality & team dynamics.

golden retriever energy. soohyuk is charismatic, but it's backed by a genuine sense of kindness that wins over most initial skeptics. super hunter's showrunners have mentioned him as a direct inspiration to one of the show's more popular characters. he brings the kind of light into a room that does not come with the cost of shadows that are too dark to explore. he's the kind of person to inspire effort in others.
personality hire /hj. upon joining unicorns, while he definitely had the credentials to join the hunters' best of the best, i like to think that he wasn't immediately seen as the face of his team. that came with time, and in some ways contributes to his credibility now.
he's never been particularly ambitious, and those who are close to him know that he's not actually seeking to become captain. however, he understands that the longer he stays a part of unicorns, and a part of team alpha, the more that hq executives are looking at him as a potential candidate. and — he knows that the hq executives like him. he's good at reading people and the rooms that he's in, and can sense that the higher-ups are looking at his team with scrutiny. but while he recognizes his strengths, he still doubts his ability to survive in a captain's role long-term — especially when he has difficulties emotionally detaching himself from his team's struggles.
other headcanons.
married to his work. a cynic might say it's due to the fact that he's never had a model of what a happy, long-term relationship could look like (in his parents), but a relationship has never been a priority for soohyuk. more realistically, it's likely due to the fact that he'd likely identify with demi/gray asexuality if he cared to label himself. he's dated around, but more often than not, the relationships were fairly superficial and ended due to the fact that his partner felt that his commitment was lacking.
very mathematically inclined. his evol works in percentages, and he's always been good with numbers. part of why he initially wanted to pursue the culinary arts was because he's interested in food science.
his manipulation of luck may have helped him in life, and he does not shy away from that reality. i think that even without the implicit knowledge that he had and evol, he still unknowingly used it. he can retrospectively look back at specific incidents where he was using his evol, though he had thought it was "all in his head" at the time.
