Please, before reacting/responding, read the piece in full as there are several different 'rooms' up, such as: the cocktail hall (this post), the dining room (link), the terrace (link) and the silent auction (link).
PS: Canon characters, OCs and crossover characters may interact with the post. No response length is expected, even just side commentary is fine on this post (some may even just watch arrivals on their tv if they're not attending, for exemple). We won't police anyone's interactions, but maybe make sure you're welcome into a conversation if you hop on existing threads between people. Otherwise, feel free to hop from a location to another as you please, even hold several different conversations with the same character, it's all very free!
GBS News had spared no expense for the event. From the very entrance hall that had been decorated with a backdrop in their colours and with their logo where people were photographed or pulled aside for short interviews, to the burgundy carpet guiding guests straight to the cocktail hall.
The hall's decoration had been kept minimalist and functional, clearly a space made for professional needs first. But the whole thing still managed to look welcoming and tasteful, with a stage at the very rear and a bar with an art deco inspiration on the left, tended by several people of different genders but all wearing the exact same outfit. Black pants held by black suspenders, and a white button up with rolled up sleeves and a black tie. Meanwhile, other people dressed the exact same way except that their sleeves were rolled down and they were long black aprons were going around the room with trays to offer different amuse bouches, prepped to clarify on allergens and ingredients to accomodate dietary restrictions.
Eventually, as people started to fill the room, M. Matthew Matheson appeared on the large stage, beginning his very short address to the guests:
“Good evening everyone. As some of you might know, and others might not, my name is M. Matthew Matheson and I am a News Anchor on W-GBS News, as well as Managing Editor of News Nights. I, I have always taken great pride in the work we did, believing, no, knowing, it was important to inform people, to speak about what was important and to shed lights on issues that should not remain obfuscated. This is what journalism is about right? When I got into this position, I got in with the following mindset: People will want the news if you give it to them with integrity. Not everybody, not even a lot of people, maybe 5%. But a 5% that'll make a difference. Because I believed journalist needed to be reclaimed as an honorable profession. Especially on tv. So we worked, we worked on creating a nightly newscast that informs a debate worthy of a great nation. Civility, respect, and a return to what's important; the death of bitchiness; the death of gossip and voyeurism; the will to speak truth to stupid. No target audience, no demographic, just good work. When GBS News started to climb back on top, to re-establish ourselves and become a national powerhouse, I was terrified. We'd gone well beyond the 5%. But I remember a call with a colleague, an old man named Perry White, some of you might have heard of him, he told me I was idiot, and I said sure, but why? And he responded: where does it say that a good news show or good tv channel can't be popular? And I remember being at loss of words, which, you can ask anyone who knows me, doesn't happen often. Today, GBS News is taking another fresh start, and all I have to say is, let's keep being us, let's keep our honour, and our integrity and our will, and let's do good with the might we've acquired. Let's be great, let's be us. For the people who we've lost doing exactly that and for those who've grown to place their trust in us, to do exactly that. To W-GBS news! And to all the people working here, making it what it is! Now I think I've taken enough of your time, so please help yourself to the food, keep any smoking or God forbid vaping to our terrace, and don't forget to participate to the silent auction! All the funds will be donated Metropolis Brown Library! Thank you very much, this was M. Matthew Matheson who clearly can't wait to be back on tv!"
With those final words, the news anchor disappeared backstage and was soon replaced by a modern jazz quartet. Eventually though, Matheson reappeared amongst the crowd of the cocktail party, ready to make his round.

Jimmy had successfully managed to sneak in Scoops (he was allowed to bring his drone; there was no sneaking involved) and decided he should, as his career was built on it by now, vlog his time at the reopening party.
"Okay, we're rolling. Scoops, just follow me. This is Jimmy's camnet at the super cool W-GBS reopening party." He talks while gesturing with his arms, having always been a very emotive speaker. He's wearing his favorite green blazer and iconic red bowtie. He talks normally when outside the building but shifts into a lower volume as he enters the cocktail hall. "That's Matheson. Scoops, try to get a view of him. He's one of my favorite news anchors, especially since he showed one of my videos on air. You guys saw that one, I'm sure of it."
He gets a decent video of Matheson's speech, with some whispered commentary throughout. Jimmy isn't very good at shutting up.
”Jim man, they have those olive martini things from movies!” Stephanie hissed, grabbing his arm and shaking it from her excitement.
She wore a simple purple dress, and black flats. Occasionally, her voice would join in on the commentary, thanks to her also having the inability to shut up.
“I’m gonna try to get that guy to drop that lawsuit against Spoiler, wish me luck,” she whispers.
M. Matthew Matheson had been making his rounds, stopping to talk with J. Jonah Jameson about something for a couple of minutes, the conversation seemingly turning heated before the two men paused, laughed and shook hands. Matheson however went on his way, retrieving a nice canapé and taking a pleasant bite when he saw an unfamiliar blond young woman headed his way with far too much pep in her steps. "Oohhhh God..." He quietly muttered under his breath.
"Hello Mr. Matheson!" Steph exclaimed, grabbing his hand and shaking it almost aggressively. "So, you said you guys got a new... thingy, building, right?"
She tried her best to hide that she had not listened to a single thing while sitting with Jimmy. In her defense, she tried, really, but she was way too focused on the cool as shit drone and the cute little mocktails, one of which Jimmy got for her.
Matheson's eyes narrowed minutely as he shook the girl's hand, or more so, suffered through her aggressive handshake. "Yes," He let out, freeing his hand. "as you can see, we are, in the midst of our brand new office's innauguration." He confirmed.
A part of him, wondered if she was one of the few Metropolis citizens who'd won the right to be there tonight. She definitely was not from the press industry. But well, she could be someone's plus one. There was, after all, something familiar about her... So Matheson forced a polite smile on his features. "Can I, be of any assistance or were you merely stopping by to say hi?" He inquired. "Also, while you know my name, I am fairly certain you have yet to introduce yourself, Miss...?"
Stephanie grins instead and leans forward, eyes sparkling. She had barely even recognized his awkward attempt at being polite against her almost excessive energy, too busy trying to come off as friendly. Maybe, to the point of it being too friendly.
"Unimportant, do you have anything to say about your recent lawsuit regarding Spoiler?" She asks, letting go of his hand. "I know it's still ongoing but maybe just share a little bit about how it's going and why you're still suing her maybe?"
There was an attempt to seem as if she was completely unrelated to either party. A bad one, but an attempt for sure.

hey! Mr. Jimmy! do you perhaps want a plus one? i will be doing nothing but eating the food and also trying to convince WGBS to drop the lawsuit against Spoiler for absolutely no reason
NEVER try and steal an opportunity like this from me ever again or else i’ll show everyone the cringe youtube videos you used to make in middle school. and you know which ones im talking about.
fine, then I’ll reveal that you used to go on online forums and text Red Robin catfish scammers because you wanted to imagine you were texting the real Red Robin
I'll have you know that aj also got rid of them, so I was ACTUALLY doing a net positive!
You remember your old instagram account right? The one you deleted, wouldn't it be a shame if someone had saved some of those pictures of you in cringe filters and went it to everyone you knew right?
you are NOT dying before me god dammit. i need you at my funeral so you can out-cry everyone and then throw yourself at my casket in an attempt to get buried with me
