Research #2: Project 2

I started looking through some magazines at home to see how Vector art was used. It was interesting to see the different types of Vector art that was in one magazine alone (I was looking at Cosmopolitan).

Some of the illustrations are quite detailed, whilst others sit more on the abstract side of the realism continuum. Some of the illustrations had a "free hand" vibe to them, like they had been drawn and just scanned in, which gave a pretty cool effect.

By looking at the different types of vector art within the magazine, it became apparent that they didn't stick to any one style, they altered their system of viewing when it came to designing and I think that allowed everything to flow much more cohesively as a whole.

Research: Project 2

For our second project this Semester we are focusing on creating an information booklet for the Child Health Promotion Research Centre.

I have chosen to focus on the Foundation - Year 2 age range, as I feel that the way that I design will cater strongly to that target audience.

The main aspect I want to focus on is the idea that we can all grow and harvest fresh produce at home in a vegetable/fruit garden.

The idea that we can obtain our own fresh fruit and vegetables rather than going to the supermarket is a positive message to portray to young children - and also it can be fun to watch your veggies grow at the same time!

I would also like to explore the idea of getting fresh fruit and vegetables from growers markets rather than supermarkets.

I have started researching a few vegetable garden infographics to get some ideas on what vector illustrations I am going to use and the colours I will be focusing on.

Sharing Ideas & Brainstorming

In class this week, we shared with each other the ideas we had for our Infographics.

Although I already had my idea for my Infographic in mind, it was good to go through the process and actually write down everything that was going on in my thought process - I ended coming up with about 16 ideas which I was actually pretty surprised with (amazing what goes on up there).

It was interesting to hear what my other classmates were doing for their infographics, especially the ones that were doing the same topic that I was - The Time Coil for the Gravity Centre.

Some of the ideas were:

Dinosaurs to show that you are listening to the past (to give the past/present feel)

An iPod with old music coming out of one earphone and modern music coming out of the other

An orbit like vector with information protruding off of it

After hearing these ideas and also looking at my own ideas, it was clear that I was on the right track. This helped me quite a bit as there are a few things in my design that I need to tweek, and without actually going through and listing my ideas and hearing other's ideas I wouldn't have come to that conclusion.
