Breads and Spreads
After coming up with the idea to use hand rendered calligraphy on toast, I found mustard to be the best sauce to write . Original I wanted to use a spread but nothing was good enough to hold its shape whilst writing.
With the mustard I sketched out some top name spread brands.
BCU With Squat Steve
This quick fire video shows off the facilities on features of the BCU Parkside campus in less conventional way.
As our research on this project showed how every university use the same layout and format for they promotional video, we thought we would come up with something different.
This was a collaboration project between myself and Richard Jones.
Breads and Spreads
I made a short animation to help promote the company as a start up, this animation could be used on socials, and condensed down to be used a a website banner.
McVities
This video is a development on the last for McVities.
The items have all be replaced with purely food items to get the message across more strongly. Various soundtracks have also been used to reflect the pickiness of the person behind the pointing arm.
The end visuals have the same idea in the way they appear as the finger taps each time on the packet of biscuits.
Road Visuals
Adding to the previous road visuals I captured with a friend in Stone, here is another piece of edited footage with visuals from around Birmingham. These visuals are intended for a DJ set even from Looselips X Forward, coordinated by Project Birmingham.
Carrying on from the “Connect” button ad, the copy has subtle changed to reflect the different meaning behind using the app and what an individual can do or achieve from using it. Key Buzzwords replacing the word ‘Connect’ have meaning behind what that connection can offer an individual. Such as:
Opportunity
Aspire
Promotion
Dream Job
Future
Create
Network
Inspire
Experience
Progress
Advance
The words have be joined by a work environment visual, to enforce the professional aspect of using the app and connect with professional individuals.
National Express
These ads really fit into the branding of previous national Express advertising. The idea it to show that there are no disruptions or anything in the way on the road, hence the “open road”. The ‘Wheel Take It From Here’ tag line has made an appearance on these ads.
The bottom ad uses the UK numberplate typeface to hint towards using road travel, as aside to rail travel.
National Express
Other ideas involved a more copy heavy ad. Explaining that if the tracks don't keep you on track, the bus is the next best option. The use of the visual may not be needed.
The next shows a platform situation, showing the train to be delayed.. again. The ‘bus’ is also on the display board, stating “we’ll take it from here’. With added copy of “when life gives you a delay, derail... and take the bus.”
National Express
Due to the rail disruption leading to a great opportunity for national express to gain some travellers to choose travel by bus, a campaign would be too good not to produce.
Here are some variations of the “Wheel take it from here” print ads. Simply featuring a bus wheel, with the type copy replaced with “no rails needed here” and “National Express”. The pun is simple but effect, easily changing we’ll to wheel. Pointing out that National Express will pick up the slack from the rail disruption, but it is a wheel that will keep the travellers on their journey.
The idea of LinkedIn as a doorway to a new career, the visual cam about easy. Making the screen of a phone a door, showing you can open this door using the app and obtain your dream career.
The tag line “tap open the door to your career” relates to that you only need to be taping on your screen to connect with other professionals and find you dream career.
This ad has a more simplistic style, taking away the phone, where everyone knows LinkedIn is used on your phone. It uses the “Connect” button, where it is used in the app to connect with other professionals.
“start your career at your finger tips.” This is used as all it takes is a tap of the finger tip to connect with another professional, and ultimately start a career, and placed under the “Connect” button, it encourages people to connect with one another.
This print ad takes on the same values as the previous ads, but incorporates a more business feel image.
For these ad I wanted to show more of a focus on the mobile app, and how it can launch you into a career, and a better/happier lifestyle. The shots behind show this mentality, taken from the shots found from the Photographer discovered on AOP.
“Let the world discover your potential” is a twist on the classic phrase “discover you potential” as linkedIn is about other professionals discover what you have to offer.
Art Direction Styles
I liked into Association of Photographers to look for a style for the new inked in campaign. I found two photographers that have similar styles which I think would be perfects for the art direction. Liam Bailey has a corporate style where using low aperture with objects in the way creating an authentic feel. Mark Webster uses this same low aperture effect, creating a bright and fresh feel with his images. The scenes he creates feel unplanned and natural, making the images easy on the eye.

Weekend Brief : McVities
App game development - McVities Biscuit Catch
This game will be part of ‘The Touch” campaign, where if you have the ‘touch’ you will be rewarded with prizes. Compete against others in the UK, and if you become #1 you will receive a life time supply of McVities goodies among other prizes.
The player can slide a packet left to right at the bottom of the screen to collect the corresponding biscuit, whilst being distracting by other snacks in the range. Different levels and different packets to play through for players to up their ranking.
