book im reading just referenced a penthouse apartment in sunkissed downtown santa cruz. girl have you ever seen santa cruz. i think the tallest thing in town is the rollercoaster

book also referenced a relationship between someone living in san jose and someone living in santa cruz and kept referencing the "45 minute drive" between them. that is technically perfectly accurate at certain times of day. but it was the only descriptor used for the drive at all and i think it's a missed opportunity to wax poetic about highway 17, the devil's road, caltrans' folly, spaghetti noodle that people commute on, location where a babysitter i had and didn't like in 4th grade told me she used to drag race at 3AM. in the 1920s there was a tram to the beach instead of highway 17. i crave the tram.
