i think the whole trans women in sports thing is particularly insidious because it pretends to be about something trivial (note the casual misogyny of disregarding women's sports in a country that's obsessed with athletic spectacle) when it's really about what we are allowed to do with our bodies and what relationships we're allowed to have with other women. even if it all came down to leisure, it's deeply disturbing that so many people are ready to authoritatively say how I'm allowed to use and enjoy my body and with whom i can do so.

everyone i've talked to about this has been completely unaware so: if you didn't know already, there's going to be a solar eclipse, with totality or coverage of 90% or more in some places, over a lot of europe, on august 12th 2026. in the uk it will start just after 6pm, and the maximum will be at 7:13pm.

Guess who finally got a binder!!

I’ve been wanting a binder ever since I realised I was trans, and when I finally wore it, I was so nervous. I was scared it wouldn’t fit, that it wouldn’t work, that I’d hate it. But as soon as I put it on, I felt an overwhelming euphoria that I’ve never experienced before. I couldn't stop crying for ages, and when I thought I had myself together, I would look at myself or try on another outfit, and the tears just kept on flowing.

Being trans is like being given a house that sucks. The pipes are leaky and the wallpaper is so ugly and the beds are lumpy and you feel uncomfortable every time you set foot in there.

Everyone else seems to really like their houses though, and you can’t see inside of them, so you just assume that you’re being weird.

And then you hear about the construction project that’s happening down the road. And you didn’t know that was an option. You can just…fix your house? It can be better? You don’t have to live with the horrible lighting and weird furniture?

But other people scoff at the construction. They complain about the noise. “Why can’t they just be happy? The plumbing is great and the furniture is so comfortable! Why would you change it? And why do we have to deal with all their issues anyways? They could just do it quietly, away from us!” And you thought everyone hated their houses, at least a little. And it’s so much work to renovate. It’s fine in your house. It sucks, but it’s fine.

Then one day you try putting up a new painting. Something small. Just for you. Just to try it. And it feels like you. It feels right. And you didn’t know anything felt that good, ever. So you start to do more. And more. And eventually you might even start construction. And it’s inconvenient, and loud, and people complain, but you didn’t know that it could feel good to go home.

And then, one day, your renovations are done. And you get to have a home like everyone else. And that joy you felt looking at that painting? It’s everywhere now. And it’s normal.

It’s hard to build the home for your soul all on your own. But it’s worth it. It’s so worth it

Literally on the phone with the IT service desk trying to work out how to get them to get me through to someone with admin privileges who can turn off Zoom's "profanity" filter (fuck off, these are not profane words). It's bluntly fucking ridiculous that I have to do this, this is a university, hard of hearing people can see "naughty" words (and these aren't even fucking naughty words) without shrivelling up and dying, none of us are fucking cherubs who must remain "pure" and "uncorrupted". This whole thing is so fucking idiotic, I study gender and sexuality, the people I interview are going to use these fucking words, I'm going to use these fucking words. Absolutely fucking absurd. It's fucking American puritanism being forced upon the rest of us by some shitty tech corporation. Nuke Silicon Valley.
