I am pleased with my work from this unit. I chose to do my spreads on VInce Frost because I liked his approach to his work - he came across very practical, designing things with a specific purpose in mind. I also really appreciated his can-do attitude and positivity, he is very bold and confident. I would love to have his confidence in everything. I enjoyed researching Vince Frost, he is very interesting and I like his personality.
I had quite a lot of problems during this unit which effected my work and I was not happy with the work I did early on and I didn’t really know what I was doing and limited myself a lot with what I was doing so it really didn’t turn out very well. I thin went back and looked at what I had previously done and mocked up a totally different direction I could go in to get myself working better. From there I then started again one more with a much better idea of what I was doing. I then had to work quickly to get the new design done and I managed it. I am please with what I achieved in the extra week I got given.
Obviously if I did this project again I would do it very differently. There were a few things I couldn’t help, but I would have taken everything I did and multiply it over the weeks before. Although I went down the wrong route and got a bit stuck, I think I got there in the end, and if I had realised before and gone in the right direction I could have made something even better over more time.
In regards to the group project, I thought that went very well. I really enjoy working in a group, I definitely prefer working with other people, I love being able to bounce ideas off other people to get another perspective I wouldn’t usually get.
I think the photography group worked well together as a a whole, we had the same aims and gelled well, with enough different opinions to be able to question each other at every turn to make sure we stayed on track. Everyone was very supportive of each other and it was a great environment.
I’m pleased with the work I did over this group project, and I like my final spread. I think I took the most important parts of my partner’s personality and showed them in my spread. The place where she feels most comfortable is at the beach and she totally changed her body language from being introverted and shy to being passionate, louder and just clearly longing to be there. I asked her if she has a particular favourite place and Bournemouth beach was one of them, so I included the pier in the photo. She is also quite traditional and very family orientated so I went to an antiques shop where they had lots of framed photos of family portraits and got a frame that I think sums up being both traditional, while also neat, structured and gentle. I then used it to frame the sand which is the colour she described herself as and in the environment she is most comfortable in, while also I think saying something about her personality - calm, relaxed, bright, and not everything is at the surface... maybe you have to go looking underneath to find what else there is.
