It’s taken a while, but the Sorbonne University’s Publication MusiqueS & Interdisciplinarité is finally out. A huge resource, my article on the mobile musician is page 345.
Cela a pris du temps, mais la publication MusiqueS & Interdisciplinarité de l'Université de la Sorbonne est enfin sortie. Mon article sur le musicien mobile se trouve à la page 345.
My research article – Vers un Modèle Praticien de la Musique Mobile (Towards a Practitioner Model of Mobile Music) – is to be published as a follow up to the conference 'Actes des Rencontres Nationales sur les Recherches en Musique', Sorbonne University, Paris.
Last day of a summer’s nomad sessions. Listening back to some of the recordings and a chiffchaff begins to join in.

A rough recording on my phone, processing the sound on the sea through a group of apps on my trusty old iPad #seatechno

Another repost, February 2015. Navigating the warren of passageways and stairs between Châtelet and Les Halles.
Repost from summer 2014, Paris.
This video marks the beginning of a period of sustained investigations to develop a workable and repeatable technique for headphonic performance. Paris at the best of times is a noisy, sometimes chaotic place, and this video captures some of the sense of bewilderment felt as I gave myself up to the movement of the streets. I was using a GoPro 3+ camera for post-performance analysis, but reflecting on the recorded material it seemed that the least interesting aspect was the iPad screen interaction. What was more fascinating was observing people in the streets, how they negotiate shared spaces, sitting, standing or walking.
Almost six years to the day that I began using a GoPro to document mobile SoundWalking on the metro, dated 17/07/14. Already I was asking: “Is this a covert performance? Doesn’t anyone notice?”
Watching back the video today, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems like another world.
