i am not really in the II fandom anymore , but i wanted to share a headcanon of mine
trans man steve cobs : headcanon and reasoning
disclaimer : i dropped the show after season two ended , but i hope my thoughts still make sense .
the main reasoning behind the headcanon was just past me projecting onto cobs and thinking that him being trans is a fun concept , but there’s actually an elephant in the room , which is that the corn cob is actually a female part of the plant . the male parts of the plant are tassels , which cobs actually does NOT visibly have . i interpret it as his gender assigned at birth .
after that , i’m gonna delve into the more headcanon-ish stuff . i think one of his reasons to transition , or one of the first things that made him question his gender identity was his need to be seen as someone capable of being a tech genius . there are misogynistic beliefs about women "not being smart/qualified/strong enough" to work with technology , which cobs , if he was viewed as a girl in his younger days , was probably made aware of . this is the first thing that made him think that "i wish i was a boy" . of course , that’s not the only reason for him to transition , but it’s the most clearly visible one to me .
about the gender presentation : cobs is male-presenting , and you can see that he’s completely comfortable in his own skin . that proves the point i just made : cobs didn’t transition solely because of the pushy society and it’s stereotypes , he made a step that he doesn’t regret and is glad he made . good for him !
cobs doesn’t have a good relationship with his parents , and there might be many reasons why. what if his gender identity was one of them ? this might’ve been the main reason , or maybe the last straw . his parents might’ve been already sick of him , and then he comes out . maybe it was bad timing , maybe his parents were originally transphobic , but i honestly believe that both ideas have the right to exist.
also , a fact from the wiki :
in the Steve Cobs Q&A, when asked if his full name is "Steven Lee Paul Cobs", Steve vehemently denies it and complains that people are adding things to his name.
hmm … what i’m getting is that the name "steve cobs" is an important part of his identity , and he doesn’t want to be called anything else than that . he doesn’t like when he’s called a different name . that might be due to the fact that he chose his name , and/or has bad associations with people using a different name for him . i doubt that "Steven Lee Paul Cobs" is his deadname , but it might remind him of it .
thank you for reading ! i hope this made sense . english isn’t my first language , so the wording might be off , bit i think i got the point across ! :3
