Yesterday I lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament congratulating Inverness born actress Karen Gillan on her ‘best newcomer’ award at the Empire Awards held in the Grosvenor Park Hotel, London on Sunday night. Karen is a Highland success story, her award last night was a break through with regards her new career in film. I know Karen takes every opportunity to promote Scotland and her home town of Inverness in particular and she is a role model for any budding young up and coming artists of the stage, film or theatre. I wish Karen every success in her career ahead and I hope that this award is the first of many in her film career
