Assignment 02 Final Work + Statement:
Based on the previous work from the assignment 1 - Poster with an idea of "Human Glitch" --- How human can glitch and how the current system is making human being glitch. Deepening the research, I collected several scholar and non-formal article discussing the difference between human, and robot, According to Manoj Kumar Srirangam 's article - "Are we becoming less human and more robot", the major differences between humans and robots are that human is the one containing multiple emotions, thoughts, feelings whereas robots only contains computer generated decisions, or let's say 1s and 0s, true and false. From the article (Major difference between robots and human) states that the major difference can also be that robots can be reprogramed to fit the certain requirement.
For the major project I have decided to continue working on the original concept from the poster --- "The human are one step away from becoming a robot, and we are one step away from preventing it".
As what was mentioned above, the difference of robots and humans are rather significant, how can human in any chance becomes a robot?
Humans live under the world which in fact, a very subtle system, some may call it - the Maslow's hierarchy of needs - in which human attempts to obtain satisfaction from the bottom level of the pyramid, and once a particular level is completely obtained, they move up into the next one. The system itself seems to be repetitive for each individuals, it also contains flaws, and interference which is in fact turning us into robots:
Money and Fame: Money and Fame are interelated, as fame brings money, and money can create fame. Human beings contains natural needs, or requirements over money as it can be traded with almost all of the physical items that will satisfy the need of the pyramid. Because of that there exists a rather strong desire to acquire as much money as possible, which fills up their brains with countless possible way of acquiring a significant amount. A famous quote goes: "Everyone has a price", and if the price has met, humans becomes robot which follow orders and execute without hesitation.
Work: Works are always repetitive, in a certain way. It can be explained as using certain part of the knowledge to complete the required task. Working is totally optional however, works generate money, and according to the Maslow's hierarchy of needs, even the very bottom level of the pyramid requires money. Therefore work becomes inevitable, repetitive, and as boredom strikes, human becomes numb and gradually loses ambition, energy, emotions etc. and thus becomes a emotionless robot.
Politics and freedom of Speech Politics bring discipline, and order, however as it introduces additional "True" and "False" which is in fact relative, it limits what people think, what people do and what people say. The lack of freedom of mind and speech will reduce the ability to maintain personal mind and critical thinking, and thus slowing turning human into a mindless robot.
In the major project, after researching several glitch artist including Andy Denzler, Clement Valla, and Ferruccio Laviani, several images are selected representing each of the system failure that is turning humans into robot - money, fame, work, politics and freedom of speech, and each carefully modified in terms of creative digital glitch representing the failure of the particular element within the system and the fact that glitch can always fixed.
