ETIOLATED CREATION – A CONVERSATION BETWEEN JEFF GRANT & DANIEL SHERER
Date: Thursday, March 1, 2012: 7:00 – 8:00pm
Location: Residency Unlimited, 360 Court Street, Brooklyn, NY 11231 Church entrance through green door. (subway F/G Carroll street, President Street exit)
This conversation centers around Jeff Grant’s latest body of work which the artist produced and exhibited during his residency in Cheongju, South Korea in the Fall/Winter 2011. Grant will discuss his experience and works created for the exhibition Etiolated creation and his focus on landscape, linear assertions, and containment.  The collection of works in this exhibition embodies the idea of a pale world, bathed in a defining, unnatural light, where anything solid, specific and precisely defined is at the same time fragile and elusive.
Grant engages in diverse media such as drawing, sculpture, installation, and video, questioning the quality and specificity of our perception and the materiality of form whether it be light, sound, or solid matter. He is particularly interested in the link between acts of creation and acts of designation.
Jeff Grant’s residency was organized within the framework of Residency Unlimited’s partnership with the CJ Art Studio residency program in Cheongju, Korea. Central to RU’s mission is to facilitate international residency opportunities for New York based artists with hosting institutions worldwide. In October 2011, Jeff Grant spent 3 months at CJ Art Studio. We are grateful to Professor Iksong Jin from the Fine Arts Department at Chungbuk National University (Cheongju) for his support. http://www.cjartstudio.com/eng/

LA - Obese Latino Queens & Entitlement
last anecdote for the night- these drunk latino queens boarded the bus, two skinny, one mega obese with the gay version of my haircut, bedazzled and glittered out. one skinny friend asks if they can take the free seat next to me. i get up to let a drunk skinny one in. while i'm up, the obese queen steals my seat and doesnt say a word. later, obese queens gets up and starts pushing the other passengers aside as if to part the nile, swirling her head in a almost body roll while shouting "MOVE". i ignore the ones directed at my direction. when she gets to the door, there's a super sweet guy with his gf and crew (the bus is packed. he paid for his party when most other people just snuck on the bus drunk). Queen shouts MOVE at him, and he says "all you gotta do is say excuse me". queen wont back down, i budge in and tell queen to have some respect, that i gave queen my seat and now she's snapping at people? what i shouldve said was a reality check- that queen was an embarrassment to gays. what reality tv show did that asshole get her fake sense of entitlement from... ANTM? is that her definition of having equality? and treating people equal? is it racial since latino queen singled out the one black guy on the bus? (Cultural Note: LA.. and CA in general, has been a racial minefield for.. forever. Don't forget the events in the 90's!)
Activist were peacefully protesting on their campus at University of California, Davis Quad.
Friday afternoon police showed up in riot gear to disperse the protesters by using pepper spray at point-blank range.
The officer who pepper-sprayed UC Davis students is Lt. John Pike. Give his PD a call. 530-752-1727
omg, this is SUCH an abuse of power. walking up to a group of 18-23 yo kids sitting down huddled together and heavily spraying them all multiple times with pepper spray
This is important. Pepper spray should only ever be used to pacify a dangerous suspect. In this case it is being administered as a punishment, in clear violation of the 8th amendment and Article Five of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Wow
The irony of this is that the police officers who attack these students for peacefully protesting most likely participated in the Civil Rights movements in the 80s, which employed the same peaceful protest tactics.
more abuse of power and use of unnecessary and excessive force. stay strong uc davis!
