Watch: The FDA will allow gay men to donate blood, as long as they haven’t had sex in a year. Alan Cumming has the solution.
wsswatson
Since Alan Cumming himself is bi and not gay, I feel obligated to point out that the FDA’s ban applies not just to gay men, but any man who’s had sex with another man in the past year.
ACTUALLY, it also applies to women who have had sex with bisexual/poly men who have had sex with a man/men in the past year, too! I learned that the last time I went to donate blood (years and years ago) and was turned away. It pissed me off so much that I haven’t been back since.
Source your quotes, Dr. Tyson…

what advice do you have for any young lesbians?
That’s a tough one. I don’t know if I’m qualified to answer it, ‘cuz I’m not a lesbian. I’m basically a gnc/gq/nb person who people sometimes misread as a lesbian but neither my gender nor my sexuality correlate with that identity.
That said, I did identify that way at one point in my life and my advice to young lesbians is the same as my advice to any young queer person, so I’ll give it a go:
1) find people who are kind to you and who see you and give you space to figure your shit out without putting pressure on you (this doesn’t stop by the way, I still have to do this). 2) your parents or other authority figures might be gaslighting or shaming you- you are right and they are wrong and one day that will be clear to you 3) the Internet (if you have access to it) is a godsend, use it to feel connected to your community and to find other people you see yourself in, but don’t use it to do things that make you uncomfortable or that you don’t feel ready for. 4) use a pseudonym while you’re doing this on the Internet, you’ll thank me later 5)listen to music and read books written by queer people, don’t believe the queer representation on TV is the only way to be queer, there are as many ways to be queer as there are to be a person cuz you’re a person 6) just because somebody has the same sexual identity as you does not mean you will have the same values 7)try your best and be kind: you are great, just the way you are and though you may not know it, you have a whole life laid out in front of you to navigate and explore
Wonderful advice for anyone.
