“I was actually hoping for something a bit more magical. Growing up with muggle literature makes it a little…been there done that I guess.”
“oh i see the issue then - may i suggest enchanted encounters by fifi lafolle or hélas, je me suis transfiguré les pieds by malecrit then - both very different but very great for different reasons.”
cepheus:
“Which I’m definitely not at the moment. Any suggestions?”
“Well, it definitely depends, yeah? muggle literature or wizarding literature and then - what genere? if you have absolutely no idea - then i also may have a suggestion or two for that.”
PIPPA:
pippa could only smile when rio waved his wand and her clothes dried of their own accord. though her things were dry clean only, magic did the trick in a pinch! “galterio? wow, that’s a mouthful. i’m philippa - but you can call me pippa.” she held out her hand for him to shake, her free hand using her wand to magically manage her wet hair. truth be told, she H A T E D that it would often curl against her wishes once a drop of water had touched it. even the best straightening charms could only do so much and now hardly seemed the time. “i’m not much of a reader.” she confessed. “unless there’s pictures.” it wasn’t that she wasn’t smart enough to understand the books, no, it was simply that her attention always seemed to be drawn to things a bit more interesting than whatever was on the paper. she had a feeling saying as much wouldn’t have earned her any points with rio so she kept her mouth shut. “have you any magazines?”
“philippa - also quite the mouthful.” he muses, giving her a small grin - shaking her hand firmly. he watched her dry her hair, noticing the way the curls fell softly against her shoulders - he found it rather beautiful in a very subtle way. her comment about pictures made him chuckle - why he didn’t quite understand people’s aversion to reading, he wasn’t one to judge them for it. he knew that people found interests outside the pages of magnificent books. “perhaps you haven’t found the right book yet. the best books often leave pictures in your mind.” so cliche to say, but rio found it rather true. “well i don’t have any magazines, but i’m sure the store does.” he suggested, another small chuckle escaping his lips. “may i buy you tea? to help warm you up - of course.”
csoltani:”
“ right, good point. ” she lies right through her teeth, undeniably half-hearted in her effort to laugh at his quirky observation. anyone claiming normal books don’t exist clearly haven’t come across the non-fiction sections in a common london bookstore, but ciara decides to give him the benefit of the doubt. god knows wizards aren’t known for their conventional streak. “ a few too many then, if you ask me. ” call her old fashioned, but there’s just something about books that don’t try to attack you that she deeply appreciates.
“ i was actually looking for muggle literature. ” she nods, looking over his shoulder briefly to assess the collection from her point of view. there are certainly a number of interesting looking books, and that’s always a start. “ lots of open doors, right? i’m not too picky, i don’t think.. just something very.. regular to read when knitting gets too exciting. ”
“i suppose...” he muses, offering her another of one his signature soft smiles. “well you’re in the right place, despite this bookstore being in pureblood territory,” he starts, knowing full and well that he is a pureblood, but his family lacks the same mindset of many who share that title, “this store has quite it’s share of muggle literature.” he pauses, musing what sort of titles she may like...things that are regular. “well have you read the classics? shakespeare? dickens? both emily and charles, that is. shelley - both the husband and wife? what about some of the brontë sisters?”
bryony-peters:
“Oh, I’m just browsing. Thank you, though
“mmm, i see. well if i may,” he starts, resting his current book on his lap. “muggle literature is quite extraordinary, and ‘frakenstien’ is quite a good read, especially during this time of year.”
ccrstcirs:
truth be told, philippa carstairs was not the sort you’d expect to find in a book store; not unless said book store also carried the latest issue of witch weekly or the american charmer. as the case were, pippa was N O T in the book store to peruse the shelves but to escape the rain that had started coming down in buckets, drenching the witch from head to toe as she’d scurried to get away from the assaulting elements. it had only occurred to her when she was far too wet that a nice charm might have saved her a great deal of trouble. she was in the process of wringing out the tails of her skirt when she caught a glimpse of a person curled up in the corner of the store, eyes widening when she realized she’d nearly tossed her bag straight on him. oops. “err, i’m all right.” she replied blithely, hands coming up to push her soggy hair behind her ears. “just avoiding the elements. it’s awful out there.”
rio practically winced when he saw just how sopping the poor witch before him was. with a quick flick of his wand, he dried the girl’s clothing, giving her a small smile. “learned that trick while i was reporting out in ireland - bloody wet all the time it is out there.” he stood up, and offered her a small smile before introducing himself. “galterio ollivander - but you can just call me rio.” setting his book down, he stood up - as to not be rude. “well, the good news is, this is quite the perfect place to escape the weather. nothing like a good book and a cup of tea to make a rainy day more pleasurable.”
cepheus-black:
“Thanks. I’m not really sure what I’m looking for quite yet but I’ll keep your offer in mind.”
“of course, mate. and the good news is, this bookstore has got quite the selection. it has a funny way of helping you find the right book - even when you yourself aren’t quite sure of what you want.”
I like depth. I like when I can look at something and feel it in my heart. I like when I can read a sentence with few words and feel like I’m drowning. I’m not a masochist or a sadist, I just enjoy the quiet reminders that my heart does more than pump blood.

lezekiiel:
lezekiel flicked a strand of medium brown out of his face; he’d elected to not craft his perfect quiff on this day, and the curtain of silk that intermingled with his lashes only served to make his inner thoughts that much more impossible to read. “no, i don’t need any help.” one of his hands held three different books on the art of divination, stacked atop his palm. “but why would you want to? customer service is an awful business, even when you’re getting paid to do the work.. let alone doing it for free.” zeke’s eyes narrowed minimally.
galterio shrugs off the dismissal of his offer, standing up from his chair. he sighs and leans up against a bookcase - wishing people would understand that kindness wasn’t something to be thought ill of. “well - i think it’s just being nice, not necessarily customer service. i enjoy...helping people.” he stated flatly, knowing that the former slytherin wouldn’t necessarily understand the concept of being nice just for bollocks of it. "why? do you not enjoy being nice?"
csoltani:
there is a reason, ciara is sure, she swore off wizarding bookstores long ago— but she can’t for the life of her remember what it was. and as the rule ( her own rule, that is. ) goes: if you can’t remember it, it probably wasn’t all that important to begin with. there’d no harm done in loitering around for the remainder of the afternoon, she supposes. she can take pretty much anything except this incessant raining. that’s england for you. with that apprehension in mind, ciara still finds herself quite relaxed once she’s actually wandering around the store, though she makes sure to keep her hands to herself. one can never be too sure in a world of jinxes and sentient material objects.
“ what kind of books? uh, ” she echoes his question to buy herself some time, mostly just to compose herself. she hadn’t expected any assistance, really. deciding what she wants is just such a commitment. ciara shrugs, looking over at a nearby bookshelf idly. “like, normal books? that don’t bite and aren’t about instructions? just.. something to read, i guess. ” she hasn’t really sat down to read in a long while. as if he wouldn’t be able to tell.
a small smile tugs at the corners of his lips as the witch before him speaks - he recognizes her unfamiliarity with books almost immediately, though he doesn’t judge. rio firmly believes that everyone should read and its never too late to start. “normal books? well i believe there really is no such thing.” he jokes, standing up to meet her.
“well, luckily for you, only a few books bite and there are less about instructions - at least within this book store.” he grins again - that’s the the one thing he hates about the network is that people cannot see his amazing smile. “well, what sort of things are you interested in - if you’re not opposed to muggle literature, that opens a lot of doors for you as well.”
scyre:
RIO!
suspicion weighs heavily in the bones of the slytherin as he eyes rio in distaste. monty had never been one for reading and wouldn’t have bothered making an appearance in the book store if it weren’t for the fact that his text book had accidentally been liquified in a potion gone wrong. “i’m looking for a copy of advanced potion making.” he explained. “preferably one in decent condition. bonus points if no other sets of grubby hands have marred it.”
“ah,” rio muses, standing up to meet the boy’s eyes. he can sense the distaste immediately, and it brings him - for a moment - back to his hogwarts days when he would get picked on for his donnish tendencies. “still a hogwarts student, are we? you look a little old to still be slinking around the old stone hallways.” a chuckle escapes his mouth as he motions for the tall blonde to follow him. “well, luckily, this is only a partly used book store and they sell untouched versions of text-books for people who need them.” he explains, showing him a new copy of the text book he required. “what happened to yours in the first place?”
hi friends!! i really want to write on rio so it'd be cool if you replied to my starter or message me to plot and we can get some individualized starters up :)
rio pushes the glasses that have slipped down the bridge of his nose back up to their appropriate place. he’s tucked away in the back corner of a book store in the golden pines, sagging into a worn ruby colored leather chair. there’s a pile of books next to him, starting on the floor and going up to the height of the arm on the chair. despite his graduation from hogwarts, rio can’t seem to escape his ravenclaw tendencies. this is his favorite place to be on his day off, especially when it’s raining - which it happens to be. the island of doctor moreau is in his hands and he’s actively engaged in the book until he heres some rustling, someone has come into his space. he looks up, smiles, and carefully closes the book, marking the page with his finger. “hello there, what kind of books are you looking for? perhaps i can help - i don’t work here, but i might as well.”
cepheus-black:
“It’s so weird, not being at school right now. I don’t know how all the alumni in the past have gotten so much time off to be at all those events. I could get Halloween off and that’s it.”
“well you could get a job that lets you come to these events, mate.” rio said with a grin, clapping the male on the back. “everyone is just itching to know about this event, so i get to come cover it. if you ever wanted a faster paced life, i could get you an interview at the network.”
