soundBarrel by SaeJoung Kou
The best musical instruments are made out of wood. Why not speakers? soundBarrel bluetooth speaker is inspired by string musical instruments that emit vibrations through the holes of the resonating wooden body. Today most bluetooth speakers have a futuristic, sleek design housed in plastics and metals. However, considering that the quality of sound is mostly dependent on the resonators, I redesigned my speaker based on string instruments’ resonators. Iris diaphragm, which is commonly used on cameras to regulate the amount of light admitted to a lens, is applied to the sound hole to control the amount of sound coming out from the resonator.
Amangiri Marwan Al-Sayed + Wendell Burnette Architects + Rick Joy Architects
The Amangiri Resort and Spa, located on a spectacular 600+ acre site in Canyon Point, Utah, is a unique collaboration between three well-established architects: Marwan Al-Sayed, Wendell Burnette and Rick Joy. The three architects were brought onto the project by Bernt Kuhlmann, one of the current owners of Amangiri, and then the managing partner in the development of the lands that now include Amangiri. The three architects were inspired to work together on an awe-inspiring site and for such a legendary hotelier, Adrian Zecha, whose Aman Resorts has redefined the concept of travel and luxury in remarkable sites.
