Doc has three modes: a) saves your life, b) regards everything suspiciously, c) calls you out on your bullshit. They’re all very healthy for your long-term wellbeing.
The racial dynamics and foreshadowing in Gen Kill are next level, especially coming out of Brad’s and Poke’s mouths. The enlisted men (and Nate) knowing what most of the officers refuse to acknowledge - that everything about the invasion of Iraq is a clusterfuck - is next level. Nate telling Reporter to write it all as he sees it is galaxy brain level. This is a hard show to watch, but so fucking SMART about modern war because it never. Pulls. Its. Punches.
Nate Fick is like that guy that you bring home to mom and dad and is really nice to your parents and calls your mom Miss and your dad Sir and eats their food and compliments their house then later demolishes you in your childhood bedroom while covering your mouth with his hand so you don’t wake your parents up because thats impolite
This is very cursed and I wish I hadn't read it no I don't

Okay but how can this gif be both the content I am reacting to and my reaction
Barnes and Noble Interview
Thought I would post the entirety of Nate Fick’s old 2006 Barnes and Noble Interview that is no longer available on the website as it’s much to good to lose to cyberspace.

This Tremere congratulates the OP on the accuracy and excellence of their research and also cordially informs the OP she has called a hunt for masquerade violation because sorry not sorry, we don't like our secrets leaked.
GK Warrior Bond
Generation Kill doesn’t make me want to read/write romance fic. It makes me want to read/write an action war piece where things go to shit because luck can’t always be shining on your ass, no matter how nice your ass is. And in this action piece, I want my alpha dog Fick to deepen his warrior bond with Colbert (and Colbert with Person and Hasser etc.)
Warrior bonds are sexy and romantic without being about sex and romance. Nothing against fictional!gay!BradandNate stuff, it’s lovely in its own right, but I am really, really intrigued by the special type of relationship they have in the show. I want to see that explored. I want to see more of their trust and understanding beyond rank and the easy, teasing companionship. I want to see how they deal with crushing guilt and fear and, frankly, how deep that bond goes.
It does not have to materialize into a typical romance. It’s a fine line but that would deflate the tension for me. It could, however, go slightly beyond what we got in the show and into eyebrows-shooting-up-if-out-of-context territory. It’s a case of the quintessentially male warrior bond, and I’ve been drawn to it since my classics reading spree in high school. Shoutout to my boy Alexander.
I would read that.
I would write that. But I’m a lazy cookie.
Main reason for watching GK again: Nate Fick as played by Stark Sands is in it
Main hurdle to watching GK again: Nate Fick as played by Stark Sands is in it and I have trouble concentrating on anything else when he is in the frame, near the frame or ought to be in the frame - I mean, why is he not the frame, espera dawg stop talking, cameraman switch back to the lieutenant, let him speak let him look at things-
