Lestat’s time on tour was the first time in his whole life, mortal and immortal, that he had a community of friends not connected to a romantic companion. They were also the first time since he was a vampire bonding with humans he did not intend to kill or turn.

In his time with Gabriella and the theater, he only saw humans as food and enjoyed being cruel to them. He loved exploring the human world during his time with Akasha, but humans themselves were still just food to bring her. Then in New Orleans, he was uninterested in humans except music and bonded with Louis with the intention of turning him.

The band and the tour crew were not that. He grew to want them to live their full lives as humans, and he was enjoying being part of the human world.

When the tour was over, the community he spent the whole season and the years between seasons building was gone. He became dependent on Gabriella again. Then when the band all become vampires, Lestat lost his last connection to humanity just in time for Akasha, who wants to destroy half of humanity, to arrive.

I think his experience with them, even if they don't come back in season 4, will still be an important part of why Lestat will eventually change his mind on the Great Conversion and turn on Akasha, as The Failures recordings seem to indicate he does.
