Hello! Sorry to bother you but I have this very very specific fic that I remember but can't find! Derek and Stiles have a one night stand but Derek leaves immediately afterwards and Stiles cannot get in touch with him. He tries to talk to Cora but he drops a condom at her lunch table. He tries to talk to Laura and steals her cellphone at a party. He does not deface Talia Hale’s car but he's blamed for it. But Stiles has to meet with the pack anyway for bureaucracic reasons. Ring a bell???

Since Stiles couldn't afford to commit social suicide, he did his civic duty and showed up at the Hale House to be assigned a time to spend with each Hale House member on his eighteenth birthday. Since she was a busy woman, Talia Hale herself only shook hands with people to decide. Then she passed them onto her children who were forming their own packs within hers. If a person were rejected by all four children they could petition to spend more time with her. This all sounded very formal despite the naked cuddling in a bed, but Stiles had a reason to be nervous about the meetings that others his age did not:

can you help me find a sterek fic i read right at the start of the pandemic? it had a really great arc involving stiles and scott realizing that their friendship dynamic had changed and that they could still be brothers even if they weren't pack. other things i remember: there's a scene where stiles imagines dancing with derek at the jungle, then realizes that any version of derek who'd go clubbing isn't who stiles would want, because he wants the real derek. ended up with alpha!derek again

Hey I think this is the ask box and I was wondering if you could help me find a fic I really wanted to re-read.

(I couldn’t find it in that “lost fic” post)

I think it might be sterek but idk anyway, it starts out with Stiles hiding in sheriff stilinski’s shed after being abandoned by his birth parents (argents) in the woods. Sheriff Stilinski finds out from Talia Hale that he’s not a werewolf and adopts him. When he goes to school and meets everyone, Allison confronts him and reveals that she knows they’re cousins.

Scott becomes popular and turns on stiles which leads Allison to break up With him, which he blames on Stiles. I don’t remember much else, I’m pretty sure Scott sells Stiles out to the alpha pack or something and regrets it after but that’s it. I don’t know if maybe the author deleted it or if I’m just looking in the wrong place but I would really appreciate your help :) .

He can’t stop thinking about it. How Derek looked at him, said his name reverently rather than disdainfully.

He sits on the shower floor, shivering even though the spray is far too hot. He keeps replaying the words over and over - sometimes the person someone shows us and the person we choose to see are two different people.

For the first time, Stiles seriously takes a moment to consider that perhaps he has never known Derek Hale at all

Mother like Son

One of Stiles' most prized possessions is a small black plush wolf his dad had bought him three weeks after his mother's funeral. He'd picked it out himself when he saw it in a shop window. It was his protector. A guardian to watch him at night. A reminder that he wasn't alone even on the night he put himself to bed while his dad protected the town.

After his mother died, Stiles didn't want to be a further burden to his dad. He’d caused enough trouble. He was the reason his mother was dead.

As a deputy, his dad struggled to cope with the loss of his wife, pay hospital bills, balance his job, and raise a hyperactive, traumatized kid. If his dad didn't have to worry about him, it'd be easier for him to move on.

Stiles' solution: run away.

One night, while his dad was on a night shift, Stiles packed a bag with his most precious possession - a photo of his parents, his pillow, and 'official' deputies badge - and left. He'd seen survival movies. He could live in the woods by building a shelter, making a fire, and finding mushrooms and fruit. It wouldn't be too hard. If he had to, he could build traps to catch rabbits, though he didn't really want to. Maybe he could keep one as a pet. Or a hawk. He could train a hawk to hunt for food.

An hour into the preserve, Stiles was lost. He'd tried following a map to the river by flashlight. The river meant water. Water was life. Even he knew that. But the woods were dark, and the shadows were darker and scarier than he thought they'd be. He didn't see the steep drop off as he stepped into it, tumbled down into a small gully, and bounced off sharp rocks and gnarled roots.

Stiles didn't get up right away. He lay in the dirt and twigs, and rock digging into his back and listened to the crushing silence of the woods. HE was tired, he couldn't breathe, and his ankle hurt. But mostly, Stiles missed his mom, and he wanted to go home.

Stiles wished everything could go back to normal. He wanted his mom to tell him a story as she tucked him in at night and for his dad to sneak into his room after his shift when he thought Stiles was sleeping to kiss him goodnight. He wanted Scott to stop looking at him like a kicked puppy and the teacher to stop smiling sadly at him when he acted up in class when he should have gotten detention.

For hours, Stiles lay in the bottom of the gully, his entire body bruised and aching. His ankle screamed at him. He couldn't move. He couldn't even roll onto his side and curl into a ball. All he could do was cry quietly in the dark as the shadows thrown by the moon through the treetops danced across the tree trunks.

Of course, the moment Deputy Stilinski discovered his son was missing, a search like the Beacon Hills had never seen was sent out. Volunteers and officers alike combed the city and woods. But it wasn't anyone human that found Stiles Stilinski.

A small snuffling alerted Stiles that he wasn't alone in the dark. The near-silent sound of an animal picking its way through the woods. At first, Stiles thought it was a large dog. Maybe his dad had decided to find him and sent the canine unit out, but the closer the large animal with pitch-black fur came, Stiles realized the animal was a wolf.

"There aren't any wolves in California," he told himself. The nature channel, his babysitter, had told him so. But even he couldn't deny the hulking form of a wolf that crept closer, wary of him. As if it were afraid to spook him. He had to be hallucinating. There was no other explanation. Why else would the eyes be glowing faintly red in the dark?

When the wolf was close enough that Stiles could see the sharp fangs, Stiles closed his eyes tight as it threw back its head and howled into the night. Stiles froze in fear, ready to feel deadly teeth close around his throat, but the pain never came.

A wet nose nudged his cheek, and a tongue licked his chin. Stiles slowly opened his eyes as the large wolf curled up beside him, pressed against his shivering body, and suddenly, every ache and pain disappeared.

Tentatively, Stiles pet the wolf. It rumbled softly and nudged his shoulder with its nose before it lay its head down on his chest. Everything was going to be okay. Tomorrow, Stiles would feel better. He and his new wolf friend would explore the woods and find a new home. He'd be the boy who ran with wolves.

When Stiles woke up, he was tucked into the starch linen sheet of a hospital bed. His dad was slouched over in the hard plastic chair beside the bed, but he had a death grip on Stiles' hand.

His dad has torn between celebration that Stiles was alive and relatively unharmed beyond a badly sprained ankle and furious that Stiles had run away. That is until Stiles asked what happened to the wolf.

"Wolf? What wolf," Deputy Stilinski asked. "The Hales found you in the Preserve and brought you to the hospital. Haven't you always said there are no wolves in California?"

Stiles always wondered if he had imagined the wolf, even as he begged his dad to buy him the stuffed animal in the window. He still had the toy wolf. But now, plushie sat on the shelf beside his bed rather than on the pillow by his head because he didn't have to wonder anymore.

Now, at eighteen, Stiles slept most nights with his own black wolf with beautiful blue eyes curled up with him at night while his plushie watched proudly from afar. Stiles was the boy who ran with wolves. They were his friends, his protectors, his guardians. Mother like son.
