"You've got blood in your eye, Harry." Harriet said as she leaned forward to take the handkerchief from his hand and take care of the cut. Her one hand went to brace the back of his head while the other applied a deep pressure with the kerchief to the cut.

"If I have to stitch that...again." she began to warn, muttering threats under her breath. it could have been a lot worse. Really, she was glad it wasn't.

Harriet could think of several suitable answers. None of them were suitable for audible consumption.

Harriet had been at this girl's party. Party seemed to hardly be the word for it with how grand the whole ordeal had been. it was big enough to build rumors of he absurdist outcomes.

Harriet had spent that party keeping both Harry and CJ in line, as the rest of the crew became rowdier than normal and the great crowds on an already overcrowded Isle led to too many possibilities of everything going horribly wrong.

The one about the Captain sticking his head in a crock was the silliest one. According to Harriet anyway. There was shark skin, the backhanded gift of a pocket watch, and good snake skin that really was nothing to taxing to catch and to make look presentable.

What remained true was that the Captain had been captivated by the little princess and the bending of the knee ( something Harriet thought lent into his 'gentleman' sensibilities. Before Neverland it sounded as if the Captain had had a Queen to follow. Harriet couldn't think of him as anything but a pirate) had happened.

Exile was the courtly word used, yet it didn't stop trading between them. Maleficent had her supporters, and the Confederacy of Pirates had its unspoken rules, but the Captain did as he wished.

He was always ready for some kind of war. Everyone else was simply too afraid of him to do anything. Harriet suspected that they all were waiting for the old man to die.

" Learn?" Harriet said from her little boat, having come with barrels of fish in exchange for the lemons, lime, and any other good fruit her enclosed courtyard had to offer. Harriet sat with her rifle in her lap, loading two new bullets into the barrel. "You trusted that?" clearly she must have had others who had 'bent the knee' still coming to her Castle to trade.

From the look of the dead goblin that Harriet had just shot, it seemed Maleficient still had her grudge. if Harriet hadn't been coming, seen the goblin burst from its disguise, and shoot it, then Evie would most likely be the one dead on the floor. It seemed, given the chance, that poor creature wanted more spice in life than just selling coffee.

" You should get inside." She said finally pulling up close to The Castle-Across-the-Way's dock. " The Captain won't like this."

Zekel locked up the bar and went to turn. Since being in Storybrooke, he had gone on with his life not knowing about his prior. Forgetting who he was and his past, he went on being a bartender and a troublesome guy. Spending the night in a cell was normal for him and he had been threatened by the mayor to clean his act up on more than one occasion. Turning with the keys in his hands, he saw a girl starting at him. He jumped slightly because he wasn't expecting anyone to sneak up on him. "Jesus. Don't go scarin' a guy, will you? Bad form."

This place was unsettling. it was too nice--too clean. Maybe that was because she wasn't used to being on land, or maybe... there had been a thought there. Maybe it wasn't important.

"You look familiar." She said, taking a drag on the cigarette in her hand. " You're closing pretty early, aren't you?" she asked looking over at the door.

" i'm not a kid! " she complains, perhaps a little louder than she should, petulantly folding her arms and doing nothing to dissuade the opinion that she was, in fact, a kid.

harriet was right, of course, people only saw her as a kid. and a sickly looking one at that. being better fed than most doesn't seem to have filled her out at all and her height is laughable. uma looks like a stiff breeze might knock her over.

but it's not fair that that was all people saw when they looked at her. it's not fair that it made her even easier to bully.

" they're looking for an easy target, " she huffs, watching the spear disappear into the water and come back holding a fish. the fish don't want to be food. the isle doesn't want to starve. sucks to be the fish.

she sits in the shallows, letting water seep into her jeans and watching small waves break against her knees. " i gotta prove i can handle myself, then they'll leave me alone. " it's easier said than done when you're not even five feet tall, but she can dream.

"uh-huh." she said as she stood taller to deskew the fish from her spear before tossing the fish towards Uma, "Get to work on that one. Then make a fire. Then we eat." She was already poised to catch another.

One on one time seemed so far and few in between. There was almost always some little one clinging to her skirt or bringing another little one with them. The older kids, like Uma, hardly felt grown to her.

"Easy targets are easily rattled." But then, Harriet was like her father in her melncholy. What made each dangerous was the unexpected burst of emotion.

" Get a ship then." Harriet had tried that. It was secret though. She would take that to her grave.

Evie had spent a lot of her exile with those who had bent the knee at that party of hers. Hook was one of them, and the thought of how well they got on should have put a pit in Harriet's stomach, but it only left her feeling somehow lacking. Evie had been in exile on threat of death ( Malenficient wasn't one to be trifled with), yet she still held fast to her ideals of a unified Isle.

She had promised Harriet her own ship if she would help build a canal from behind Castle-Across-the-Way into the mountainside to the other side of the Isle. Evie had needed ships to transport the rocks and other materials to and from where her mountain trolls were mining out those caves.

At the time, Harriet thought she could do it -- unify the Isle. Harriet certainly, for the first time in her life, had let herself enjoy something that was solely for herself. She enjoyed captaining that little runner ship and sailing through what had been dug out of the caves. It was her secret She wouldn't even have told her sibling. She'd forced Harry into Serpent Preparatory and CJ into Dragon Hall if only for the excuse to better themselves ( as if they even could. If she really had cared about that , Harriet would have fought to have them enrolled at a much younger age). If they didn't know then they couldn't get hurt.

Evie was building those ships, like she promised. One of them would have been Harriet's. If she had a ship and the Canal was finished, then there would be space to take on the other side of the Isle. There would be more fish, more farm ground -- space away from this place.

But secrets were never kept for very long on the Isle. Somehow they were always found out. That was how Evie's ships were burned. The canal was left unfinished and those who had sided with Evie went up in a blaze with the ships.

Yet, somehow, Harriet was still there, still just the epitome of barefoot, uneducated, and 'pregnant'. There were always children at her heels after all. She knew better now. There was no use to try again.

"Get territory, take ground." Harriet continued "And don't lose your head."

"You are a kid, kiddo." Harriet said with her same sharp and curt nature. Her attention was fixated on the water around her knees, a spear held firmly in her hands as she watched the water. She wasn't in any mood for anything half rotten and deep fried, nor fresh, overpriced, and well guarded.

She could easily have let a hook hang over the side of the ship, but then there was the high probability that she might not catch what she intended or her catch would be taken as quickly as it was caught.

Fishing like this was just easier on all fronts and offered moments of peace, however fragile.

"They are looking for a rise out of you. " Harriet plunged her spear into the water, pulling back up a perfectly impaled fish. " that's all."
