An Adze is an ancient woodworking tool used for carving wooden bowls or even dugout canoes. It’s kind of like the opposite of a hatchet or an axe. You can also use an adze for planing wood into beams.
An adze was used in the 1960 film Swiss Family Robinson when Fritz and Ernst set out to explore the island in a dugout canoe they made.
