Watching my bi friends’ identities get erased when they‘re in m/f relationships makes me think it’s even MORE important to write bi characters in m/f relationships and then be REALLY BLATANT about the fact that one or both of them is bi.

science fiction gets more queer with every passing day, and i am so here for it. reading aurora rising and having explicit bi representation knocked my goddamn socks off, and once & future having a queer immigrant woman of color playing the role of king arthur, with her sidekick of canonically gay merlin was one of the most interesting takes!! i’ve ever seen of the arthurian legends!! 

as a queer person who loves sci-fi, i spend so much time being hungry for more, because for a very long time there’s been the prototypical cishet white male sci-fi hero, who often plays into colonist themes or hypersexual toxic masculinity, and it just doesn’t do it for me! seeing more & more science fiction books be about women, people of color, and LGBT+ people is super exciting, because the inherent sci-fi themes of exploration make for wonderful queer parallels. that, and queer people have always laid claim to sci-fi, even the most classic of stories: look at captain kirk and spock! there’s so many classic sci-fi tropes that hit so close to home with queer theory, and it’s really awesome to see authors taking advantage of that. 

sci-fi is for the gays, and there ain’t nothing you can do about it.
