Why Kristanna is a Bad Relationship

Note: If you like Kristanna, that’s fine but don’t post on this okay? No for real, please don’t post on this. You guys can make defenses of this character on your own blogs. Don’t muck up my posts with your stuff please.

1. There was no Romance in the Original Tale: In the tale of the Snow Queen, there was no romance whatsoever. Gerda was rescuing her best friend Kai from the Snow Queen. So why did Disney add a romance?

2. The Romance is Forced: Kristoff is suddenly attracted to Anna in like the last few minutes of the film. During Fixer Upper, he’s just suddenly attracted to her without no explanation. Why? Throughout the whole movie they seem to hate each other. This attraction makes no sense and Anna wasn’t even aware that Kristoff was in love with her until Olaf tells her. 

3. Kristoff is Rude: Kristoff talks down to Anna throughout the whole movie. It’s suppose to be funny and show how different they are but it comes off like Kristoff hates Anna’s guts. He never says anything nice to her. There is also the whole ‘joke’ about how he would be okay with leaving Anna to die on her own. Yeah, it’s not funny. That isn’t funny in the slightest. I don’t care if he says it in the reindeer voice, it’s not funny.

4. Hans is a Better Romantic Lead: I’m dead serious. Hans being the villain not only doesn’t fit but the directors even admitted to adding it in at the last second. The time Anna and Hans spend with each feels much more fleshed out than the realtionship Anna and Kristoff have.

5. Kristoff and Anna Should Have Stayed Friends: They act like friends. Nothing about their realtionship feels like they’re going to be friends. Why couldn’t they have stayed friends? For all this talk about this movie being progressive, it’s pretty much the same thing. It would have been extremely progressive had Kristoff and Anna had not gotten together.

6. Wasn’t This Movie about Sisters?: Here’s what gets me the most. This movie was suppose to be focusing on the sisterly realtionship with Elsa and Anna right? Well they barely do that. Anna and Elsa barely spend any time together within the film. Anna spends more time with Kristoff and even then, we know nothing about them. Why is he here? Just for the sake of romance? Where is the sister bonding!?

7. Anna Could Have Been on Her Own: Again, people say this movie shows that you don’t need a man to save you but we see Kristoff saving Anna a lot. The writers could have Anna go on this adventure alone. That would have been awesome to see. A sister saving a sister from herself .But nope, lets add a dude because romance!

If people like this pairing, fine. But it’s terribly written and everything about it is forced. I honestly and truly believe had they removed this pointless romance, the movie would have been at least 15% better.

The only reason Kristoff is in Frozen at all is because Lee and Buck were to stupid to realize Anna didn’t love a love interest.

Am I the only one who finds Kristoff to be a dick? Like people he loves Anna so much but it seems like he doesn't. I know this random but something about the way Kristoff treats Anna bugs me.

Other than his design, I’m not a big fan of him either. He’s basically Flynn 2.0 to me, hence why I’m not into him. Granted, I don’t think he’s quite as douche-y as Flynn, but I don’t buy the romance between him and Anna at all.

Another reason I point out the crappy romance in Frozen is because if Frozen was so progressive, there would have been none. Nearly every Disney princess movie (except for Brave) has a hetrosexual romance. If Frozen was truly progressive as it stated, then Kristoff and Anna wouldn’t have ended up together. Instead, they would have probably just been friends. There was really zero need for their to be a romance anyways because the Snow Queen didn’t have one at all.

Shouldn’t the focus of this movie had been the sisterly realtionship? That is what the movie markets itself off of and Anna barely spends any time with Elsa. She spends most of her time with Kristoff and even then, Olaf has to tell her that Kristoff is in love with her.

I really don’t understand why people defend Kristoff’s inclusion when he’s just a forced romantic interest.

A big thing in the writing world is that if your characters have to kiss in order to prove they’re together, then you haven’t done your job establishing the romantic connection. I’m on mobile so I can’t find the source but Jen Lee has said she had them kiss just so the audience knew they were a couple.

I’m going to have to politely disagree with you both, and here is why.

First of all, it’s unrealistic to expect Anna and Elsa to have spent more time together. For a good majority of the movie, Elsa was deliberately pushing her sister away, remember? Also, I really don’t see why they would need more time together to prove their love for each other. It was obvious enough to me with the time they were given on the first watch of the movie, and I’m the most socially clueless person you’ll ever meet.

Second of all, Kristoff is deliberately set up as a foil to Hans. Hans is supposed to represent shallow attraction and what romantic love is not. Kristoff is supposed to represent what romantic love is, i.e. putting someone else’s needs before yours and loving someone as a person and not just a pretty face. Anna is certainly not attracted to him at first. It’s only after she gets to know him that she falls, which contrasts what happened with Hans. This was deliberately done to highlight everything that was wrong with Hans and the idea of love based on shallow qualities.

Third of all, how is romantic love not progressive? Healthy examples of love are the most progressive thing we can teach people. Kristoff respects Anna’s strength, calls her out when she makes bad decisions but doesn’t talk down to her, doesn’t get petty and jealous of Hans when he starts to fall for her, and is shown explicitly asking for Anna’s consent before kissing her. In our society that glamorizes unhealthy romantic relationships, a mainstream movie that shows this kind of thing is a blessing.

Lastly: Kristoff is much more important to the story than you think. Metaphorically, he is a positive representation of love, and a grounding force in Anna’s life. Literally, he was her guide; he drove the story along. Anna would never have found her sister without him (best case, she would’ve been picked up by Hans and the guards. Worst case, she would’ve wandered alone in the mountains and died). Even if she had, she would have died of her frozen heart before she could get down to Arendelle and find help.

Kristoff is not just a useless love interest, and the writers made a good choice in creating his relationship with Anna. If I were you, I wouldn’t write off romance so quickly anyway.

I have an idea. Next time, write this extremely boring and pointless shit on your posts instead of invading anti-Frozen posts.

We don’t care about Kristoff so why are you telling him why you think he’s important? Like we really give two craps about another pointless white male love interest.

And a positive representation of love? Really? Kristoff is a dick. He talks down to Anna and even considers leaving Anna to die. Yeah that sounds positive to me. If I want to see a real positive romance, I’ll watched Tangled or Princess and the Frog. Not Bland White People Romance the movie.

People seem to forget that Kristoff is only in Frozen because the writers felt they needed to have a romance. 

The Snow Queen didn’t have any romance in it. It was about a young girl saving her best friend. So Disney added a pointless, one sided romance because of reasons I have yet to understand. 

As for ‘needing Kristoff’ Anna really doesn’t need him? The only reason she needs him is because the writers tell her that she does.

I am still going to stand by my view here. Kristoff is rather pointless in the grand scheme of things and his ‘romance’ with Anna is forced as can be.

Why Elsa Isn’t Feminist (Part Three!!!)

I think a lot of people don’t seem to understand why people are so tired of hearing Elsa being praise as feminist or most feminist.

1. People Just Flat Out Ignore the Other Princesses: Suddenly, Mulan and Tiana don’t exist. Rapunzel is no longer around. Who is Ariel and who is Belle? The only princess that seems to matter is Elsa. If she is your fave that makes sense but people seem to think she’s the only Disney princess around. Hell, she’s not even a Disney princess. She’s a queen. She is also not apart of the line up! Plus, hearing ‘Elsa is better than (x) because of (insert bullshit reason here)’ has gotten really old.

2. She Literally Doesn’t Do Anything: When people call a character feminist, it’s because they empower women in some way. In order to be called feminist, a character must do something empowering. Snow White, Cinderella and Rapunzel all overcome abuse. Merida saves her mother while also coming to understand her mother. Tiana gets her dream restaurant and manage to save herself while in the form of a frog. Mulan not only saves all of China but saved her elderly father from going to war. Belle didn’t give into Gaston’s will and also taught the Beast how to be more human. Ariel saves Eric twice.

But Elsa?

All she does is sing a pretty, catchy pop song.

 Does she overcome her mental illness?  Doesn’t really seem like it. She never seems to embrace it or talk about it.

Did she overcome her abuse? Never once does she sit down and say, “My parents were abusive.” She doesn’t even have a discussion with Anna about it.

She embraces her sexuality? That doesn’t happen at all either seeing as how it’s not apart of the Froze narrative. 

People are giving her praise for being nothing new. We’ve seen this character before and we have seen it done better.

So I’ve come to the realization that they use the same mold or whatever for the Frozen dolls. Same faces and everything. Like do you need two of the same dolls for one to sing and another to light up? Doesn’t seem very cost effective.. And then I finally see some Frozen Fever merchandise and I wanted to piss myself. You know how Nostalgia Critic said in his Cat in the Hat review what may look nice as a cartoon may look horrifying in real life? That’s what I thought. And did Elsa’s skin get paler? It almost matches her hair! Not to mention her dress is sooo dark that it doesn’t appeal and Anna’s hair.. Well idk anymore

I think one of my major issues with Elsa fans is they give her credit she doesn’t deserve. Elsa doesn’t do anything. Anna is the one is doing all the work. I also dislike how people call her the first gay princess just because she doesn’t get a man.

Like about 85% of Elsa fans think she’s so great but ignore that she doesn’t really do anything. Anna? She at least wants to try and get things back on track. Elsa doesn’t really seem to give a flying fuck.

Why Elsa Isn’t Feminist

1. Elsa Doesn’t Do Anything: When you really watch the movie, you’ll notice that Elsa does do anything except make herself an ice castle and some snowmen. That is literally all she does. The person who is trying to save Arendelle is Anna. Elsa stays in her castle and does nothing important. 

2. She Leaves Arendelle to Freeze: Elsa doesn’t even try to unfreeze Arendelle despite being the one who froze it. And we literally saw her bring a snowman to life, make an ice castle and a functioning dress with matching shoes. I’m pretty sure she could have at least tried to save her home.

3. She Doesn’t Really Seem to Care About Anna: When Anna risks life and limb to get to her sister, what does Elsa do? Tells her to leave. Okay, I understand that Elsa is afraid of hurting her sister. That is a legit fear. However, she has been shutting Anna out for years. They least she could do is talk to her sister.

4. Elsa Throws Anna Out After Freezing Her Heart: Elsa knows she hurt Anna. When she turns around after having her little moment, she looks shocked. She realizes that she had done something but instead of trying to be a good sister she summons Marshmallow and throws Anna out.

5. Elsa Doesn’t Learn from her Mistakes: In order to be a good character, they have to grow. Despite the issues I have with Anna, she at least goes through some growth and learns that you can’t just jump into love. Elsa, however, makes mistake after mistake yet learns nothing. 

6. Elsa is Nothing New: We have seen a white, thin princess multiplie times. She’s not like Tiana who is the first African-American princess or Snow White who led one of the first animated feature films. She’s just really basic. 

If you like Elsa, I’m not telling you to stop okay? Like her all you want. That’s your right. But Elsa isn’t really feminist when you break down her character and really look at her. She is a badly written character who doesn’t deserve all this praise for being ‘feminist.’

Why Elsa isn’t Feminist (Part Deux)

Let’s compare Elsa to another princess.

Tiana, the first and only African-American princess that Disney has created. Now already, she has something that Elsa doesn’t: importance. Many young African-American girls will look up to Tiana and realize that they too can be princesses. So Tiana is empowering to little black girls. Even black women find her empowering.

Tiana also holds down two jobs to order to get what she wants: her own restaurant. She is driven, dedicated and will not stop until she gets what she wants. However, this is also a slight flaw. Tiana doesn’t leave time for fun and thinks that all she needs to do is work. Throughout the movie, she learns from this. She ends up realizing that her dream isn’t much of a dream if she doesn’t have someone to share it with. She also realizes that it’s okay to have a bit of fun every once in awhile.

Another thing that is important about Tiana is that she teaches girls it’s okay to dream and wish but you have to be a hard worker as well. You can’t just think that things will fall in your lap.

So basically Tiana is well developed, interest and relatable in a way that Elsa is not. Elsa runs away from her problems, never faces them head on, doesn’t learn a thing and gets her happy ending handed to her. Tiana, on the other hand, has to work for it so it means more when she earns it.

TL:DR: Tiana is a better feminist icon than Elsa is.

Rooty Visits Target

AKA How Disney is Still Biased Towards Frozen

Alright, so recently there has been a discussion about the lack of POC princess merch. I’ve been talking about it with punzel-anna, there was discussion over at waltdisneyconfessionsrage and it’s still on going.

Now I tried not to look at the princess section when I went to Target. I tried so hard to ignore it but I couldn’t. 

So I went there and this is what I found.

Jasmine has two new items. I was happy to see this. However, I was angry to notice that Tiana has nothing except one small doll in a Disney princess collection. Not only that but I found nothing but Mulan or Pocahontas yet again.

I also checked out the Big Hero 6 section

Hiro has only one toy, Baymax has two, Wasabi has one and I still have yet to see any Honey Lemon or Gogo. Great. Just great

But the Frozen section?

Outfits, various Olafs, Kristoff is even there, a buttload of dolls and even a new ugly music box.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Jellybeans, chocolate bars and candy holders. All in the Halloween candy section. Because Frozen is so Halloween themed right?

Yeah, this is going to continue to piss me off and I know I’m not the only one. There is literally no good excuse for this laziness. We get it, Frozen made you a shit ton of money. You already have milked this cow enough, how much more do you need? Can’t you use some of that Frozen money you earned to make more merch?

I didn’t even take pictures of all the Frozen plates, cups and bags I saw either.

I didn’t even post the really sad section of Inside Out merch. No Disgust and Sadness to be see. Didn’t even find Fear! 

Does Disney want to lose money? Because I don’t get it. Again, I understand that Frozen made a shit ton of money but right now, they aren’t even making good Frozen merch. Who asked for Frozen jellybeans? Did anyone really want Frozen push pin boards? And does Elsa need another stupid doll?

All this money they’re spending on Frozen is going to be going down the toilet because they won’t be able to sell like 75% of it. People either already have the merch or don’t want anymore. Why are they throwing money away?

I think Fr@zen is this generation’s “Star Wars Craze” or “PokeMania”, only difference is while I never seen SW, Pokemon actually deserves all that hype in my opinion. It has actual values about friendship, compassion, selflessness, and not giving up. Frozen’s Aesop about familial bond is pretty broken due to poor writing and characterization.

Kristoff wasn’t needed and even with him in the story, he seems rather pointless. He just serves as pointless romantic padding. For a movie that brags about being about sisters, they seem to be focusing a lot of straight love here.

From a personal stand point, I honestly find Anna to be a better character than Elsa. Elsa is just bland and she's a pretty terrible person. I know Anna has issues but she's the only one trying to do shit

I don’t think either of them are good characters. Neither of them have any real character development and they’re both problematic in various ways (mainly because of writing).

But you are right, Anna’s the only one trying to fix things while Elsa continually runs away.

While I think Elsa had more potential as a character, and I find Anna to be one of the most boring female protagonists ever, Anna at least has a semblance of a personality while Elsa has…practically none, and Anna is more proactive in the story than Elsa, which is why in some ways I believe Anna is the better character.

I disagree with that one post. My favorite characters in Frozen were the dogs that chased after Anna and Kristoff. Maybe one of the paintings. The trees are cool. I also like the ship they were on at the end. It managed to float after being frozen and sunk, which makes my inspiration and hero.

Depression is not an excuse for Elsa’s behavior and it never will be.

Just because she’s depressed doesn’t mean she gets a pass for almost killing her sister and leaving Arendelle to freeze.

I like how people who try and pretend the images showing how the Frozen female faces are almost exactly the same are like “well I look exactly like my mom and sister soooo am I an example of lazy genetics because that just happens”

like that is literally an image montage where three different faces are lined up together and appear as one face without having to blend it at all or adjust the features to line up correctly. Unless you’re a family of identical triplets I doooubt you’ll be able to do that with your features and that’s the whole point
