Nick Drake’s Grave | Church of St. Mary Magdalene | Tanworth in Arden, England | December 2015
Born in 1948 in colonial Burma, Nick Drake created brilliant, beautiful, melancholy music that has touched so many lives over the years. It seems he had an aversion to performing live and doing interviews which probably was a big reason for his lack of commercial success while he was alive. Ahead of his time, feeling misunderstood and overwhelmed by his depression he succumbed on 25 November 1974, at the age of 26.
His sister is quoted as saying “My brother once said to my mother, “If only I could feel that my music had helped anyone at all …”
If only he had known…
Nestled in the town of Tanworth in Arden, the cemetery where this genius was laid to rest is tiny and covered in gothic headstones with a small church. Buried beneath an oak tree along with his mother and father, they share a simple headstone with the epitaph…
“Now we rise And we are everywhere.”

I know perfectly well I’m not where I should be I’ve been very aware You’ve been patient with me Every time we break up You bring back your love to me And after all I’ve done to you How can it be You still believe in me?

I wear Black on the outside ‘Cause Black is how I feel on the inside I wear Black on the outside 'Cause Black is how I feel on the inside And if I seem a little strange Well, that’s because I am If I seem a little strange That’s because I am But I know that you would like me If only you could see me If only you could meet me
