Post Finale | Alaric & Meredith
Meredith had never given much credence to romance novels. Sure she had read them on occasion as just because her priorities were different then most girl’s her age, she was still very much a nineteen year old girl. However, she had found many of the novels to be unrealistic and over the top. But now, in this singular moment she could understand the overbearing feeling of love and emotion displayed by characters in reunion scenes. For her, in this moment, time seemed to stand still. Alaric was alive and for the next few hours, that was all that would matter.
“I missed you. I missed you so much, Alaric.” Meredith spoke into his shoulder, refusing to release his embrace yet. She had watched him turn into a monster he never wanted to be and then die. But now he was here and so very much alive. It was almost surreal. She knew things were more complicated then that. He would still be an original vampire and she was still very much a vampire-human hybrid, both having the pass time of hunting. Their lives were going to be exceedingly complicated from this point forth, but she wouldn’t dwell on it. They were together. They’d get through it together.
Finally she pulled back just enough to meet his gaze, an ocean of normally concealed emotion unvoiced and yet so powerfully conveyed. “Damon wasn’t your fault.” Meredith knew what was bothering him, what had caused him to be out at this time in the morning. She might not of always liked Damon, but he was just as much Ric’s friend as Elena was hers.
Alaric tightened his grip around her almost forgetting that he wasn't human anymore-- he was an original vampire. His strength was much stronger than a normal vampire and the Mikaelson's. He loosed his arms around her but didn't bother to move. It was as if he were afraid that she'd disappear any minute if he let her go. That this was some sick illusion as a defect of the disintegration of the other side. That she wasn't here and he was still dead.
He should be.
"I missed you too Meredith." His voice cracked and a burning sensation made it's way down his throat. He was starving. He had been dead for almost a year and blood consumption wasn't exactly-- necessary on the other side. But now that he was among the living, his body was yearning for the sweet taste of fresh blood running down his throat.
"Yes it was Meredith. Bonnie grabbed me first when it should have been Damon." He knew it was because they waited to long. Good ol' Damon playing hero when he knew the people who loved him the most would be the ones who suffered. "He got-- he got everything he ever wanted and now...he's gone. And Elena.."
Do you think it an ironic twist of fate that the two vampire /hunters/ have become that which they hunted?
"Yeah. Ironic and unfortunate."
How does it feel to be alive, in a manner of speaking, again?
"It feels great but--"
"Damon,he should be here."
Post Finale | Alaric & Meredith
Meredith had grown accustomed to many things in her nineteen years of life. She had been trained since a young age to be a hunter, grown to accept her nature as a hybrid, gained friendships and lost friends. She had stood at her friends sides through all the turmoil which had plagued their town and dared to love a man whom it had felt as if fate had drawn her to. Meredith had first met Alaric as a child in the wake of Klaus’ attack on her family. He had helped her sort through the psychological fallout. They had then crossed paths years later, the European History teacher and student beyond her years by day, hunters of the supernatural by night. Their bond had only grown in the wake of chaos and death amidst the town. Their relationship had formed before their either had truly realized it had. It was natural, an everlasting bond built on emotion and the desire to protect those they loved. Then she had bore witness to the darkness consume him, he had nearly killed her and her friends, and yet in the moment of his death her heart had felt as if it had shattered into a million pieces.
Yesterday, the usually calm and collected Meredith had faced the most emotional whirlwind of her life. Her best friend, Stefan, had been murdered, Elena and Damon had killed themselves in order to get to the Other Side, and she realized too late what Bonnie had been hiding. They had gotten Elena, Stefan, Tyler, and Alaric back but Bonnie had died with Damon. Meredith had been at odds more often then not with Damon, however she hadn’t wished him death, especially with the knowledge of how devastating the loss would be to Elena. And while she had wanted to go to Alaric immediately, she had held back and stayed with Elena for the remainder of the evening. They had lost their best friend and Elena had lost Damon too. But now she had ventured out into the cool morning air, her hair a bit more frizzy from the way she had slept, and paused to take a breath as she began to walk the path from the Salvatore Boarding House toward the more residential area of town. It was when she was about halfway there that she paused, looking up. There Alaric stood and her breath caught. She wasn’t sure who moved forward first, only that soon enough they were embracing. He was alive. This was real.
It was difficult having to watch the people close to him go through the pain and turmoil that had ceased to leave them alone. Whilst watching them from the other side-- all he wanted was to help them. He wished he could help them but unfortunately that kind of communication, that kind of ability wasn't allowed. So all he could do was sit back and watch them suffer. It was almost heartbreaking at times, but Alaric knew better than anyone that they would make it-- they'd be okay, life would be okay.
If only he knew how wrong he was, he wouldn't think like that. Sure enough the traveller's were stopped but with catastrophic results. Although he had a feeling Bonnie wouldn't possibly make it, Damon was supposed too. And now his best friend was gone. When he could have moved on and found peace, he stayed behind to watch over Damon-- and Meredith. Though he was positive Meredith could take care of herself.
Alaric sat on the bench with his head in his hand. Damon should of gone through first-- he couldn't shake the feeling that this was his fault. Bonnie had grabbed him first and maybe if she had been quicker-- or grabbed Damon first, things would be different. They'd all be here and Stefan and Elena wouldn't be suffering.
A snap of a twig caught his attention as Meredith stepped into sight. As if on instinct he stood up and wrapped his arms around her.

What would you do if Meredith was ever turned into a full vampire? How do you feel about the fact that she is half-vampire?
"She’d still be the same Meredith to me. What she is doesn’t change anything."
Are you planning to return to the states anytime soon?
Yeah, I guess so.
Is the distance between you and Meredith, in terms of you being in Russia and her in Beacon Hills, hard on your relationship?
For me? Not really. We talk on skype as much as we can. I mean— I miss seeing her physically, but I think we’re good.
What first drew you to Meredith?
I like woman who are intelligent. Meredith’s intelligent.
Elena: What doesn't happen.
Elena: Damon feels the need to rip my heart out
Elena: Every time he feels like a bad person.
Ric: Maybe he just needs a break from you.
Ric: Ever think of that?
Elena: Someone cheer me up
Ric: What happened now.
