    IT WAS LIKE LOOKING IN A MIRROR.  violet could empathize with the girl, well, she HAD been her at one point.   westfield high’s fresh meat.   “ it’ll get better.  although, tuning it out won’t work. ”  she’ll offer a smile    warm    readjusting her shoulder bag.  “ if you want, i can show you where i hang out ?  it’s quiet. ”

                        senseless   gossip   aside  ,   stella   had   made   the   decision   that   westfield   topped   mill   valley  ;   chuck   &   auggie   weren’t   present   here   anymore   than   they   were   at   home  .   memories   around   every   corner   would   hurt   too   much   &   not   a   SOUL   in   town   would   let   her   live   down   her   final   entry   into   the   school   paper  .   until   ramon   returned  ,   she   had   her   dad   (   ruthie  ,   too  )  ,   &   that’s   all   she   needed  .

                       “   thanks  ,   ”   her   sigh   is   tired  ,   but   all   the   same  ,   smile   is   returned  ,   GRATEFUL  .   “   quiet   i   can   do  .   i   like   quiet  .   ”    when   she’s   not   alone  ,   at   least  .

                     PANIC   rises   like   burning   bile   in   her   chest   to   once   again   watch   helplessly   as   fresh   blood   stains   yellowed   pages   in   perfect   script   ;   “   CLINKITY - CLINK  ”   the   title   reads  .   sarah   bellows   plays   the   sick  ,   twisted   role   of   god   &   stella   shudders   like   withering   leaves   around   her   under   the   restless   spirit's   omniscient   gaze  .   she   weaves   a   story   about   an   ill - fallen   old   lady   who   soon   dies  ,   glassy   eyes   never   closing  .   in   her   coffin  ,   those   eyes   stared   at   everything   &   saw   nothing  .   two   shiny   silver   dollars   was   the   solution   .  .  .   but   with   a   few   careless   bumps  ,   to   the   ground   they   fell  .   CLINKITY - CLINK  .   the   page   trembles   in   her   grip   as   she   reads   on  ,   scanning   for   a   target  ,   a   name    ----   annette  .

                deeper   behind   the   horizon   the   sun   sinks  .   stella’s   steps   are   hurried  ,   desperate   to   find   the   girl   in   question   before   .  .  .   how   lustrous   &   smooth   they   were  ,   those   coins  ,   glinting   in   the   setting   sun   like   a   crooked  ,   beckoning   finger   to   be   claimed  .   “   no   .  .  .   ”   single   syllable   is   barely   above   a   whisper  ,   dread   gnawing   at   her   stomach  .   already  ,   she   sees   annette’s   fate  ,   but   maybe   there’s   still   time  .

                    “   ---   DON’T  !   ”   too   late   does   she   spy   another   innocent   victim   fall   for   their   designated   trap  .   stella   swallows   thickly  ,   throat   filled   with  cotton  .   she’s   staring   at   a   dead   girl   walking  .   “   i  -  i  -  i’m   very   sorry  ,   b  -  but   you   shouldn’t   have   done   that  .   we   have   to   go  .   now  .  ”

                 “   i   STILL   can’t   believe   they   want   to   tear   down   the   old   bellows   house   for   a   dumb   m a l l  .   ”    true   that   mill   valley   wasn’t   the   most   thrilling   of   small   towns   —   what   an   OXYMORON   that   would   be   —   &   a   majority   of   residents   couldn’t   care   less   about   a   dilapidated   spook   house  ,   but   her   love   for   all   things   horror   vastly   outweighs   any   of   that  .   “   not   only   is   that   place   a   chunk   of   HISTORY  ,   but   this   town   is   just   begging   for   a   good   old   fashioned   sarah  bellows   curse   if   they   go   through   with   it  .   ”

fingers pry from the cold steel and picked at rubber of his handlebar to adjust thick rimmed glasses as he nods to her words. a low chuckle escapes him and he tips his head to the side.                      “oh yeah, that’ll show them. sarah bellows showing up all fuckin nasty with maggot filled face holes like ‘GIVE ME BACK MY HOUUUSE’. imagine seeing that shit at the gap!”             a trill of laughter leaves him with an ease and a pride at whatever the hell accent he’d just trundled through on the fly for ghost!sarah.
