I was lucky when Nexus went supernova, because I hadn’t lost Arboria too.  It started like a pin-point of light as our ship hovered at the edge of the heliosphere.  The brightness grew until it looked like a binary system.  Our tree was nothing in less than a fraction of a second along with the forest around it, reduced to atoms.  The moons were dashed away like motes of dust before a hurricane.  

And then it was gone.  

I stared as long as I could, long after my eyes hurt; the grief was worse than the damage the light did.  Aya engaged the ship’s shielding and gently closed my eyes with the tips of her fingers.  Then I felt her arms, warm and strong and reassuring.

My voice sounded like wet gravel when I finally spoke into the comm.  "This is Crym… on–… on the SS - Black Jabbit… Is… there anyone left out there…?“

Enter the night through the eye of the storm This dark machine, an impossible hero Hey starlight, yo battle bird Only in dreams can I take you home

for context, i think i asked in world chat for animal corpses because i wanted to litter ayana's housing plot with dead animal bodies and make, like, a heavily polluted area not far from her home
