rab couldnât help but think now that the last drink he had was slightly unnecessary, as he wandered through the fun house, visage strewn by all the lights and colours about. he felt lost. as a group of girls flitted past him with their loud whoops and cheers, he lightly wondered when heâd find someone he knew.Â
narrowing his hues to scrutinise more clearly the next person he saw, he found they looked oddly familiar in his tipsy haze. the slytherin approached and tugged at their arm softly. â oh, right - there you are. whereâs the way out? â
Yelping slightly as someone grabbed on to her arm, Storm instinctively yanked it back, mentally chastising herself for eating too many candy apples. That, compared with the room of mirrors she had just come out of wasnât the greatest combination. Then - she had never been one to make good decisions.Â
âFucking hell Rab, you damn near gave me a heart attack.â Glancing at their surroundings, she turned back to him with a slight shrug. âHonestly? Havenât got a clue. Just kind of been wandering around in here. Havenât really been paying attention.â

Nic just sighed in response, trying not to snap again. âIâve got a headache..â he explained halfheartedly. It wasnât a great reason, but it was something. âDidnât mean to run over you..â he added as an after thought, almost an apology.
âItâs fine,â she shrugged, knowing that was the best she would ever get from him. âHairâs fine, robeâs fine - so itâs all good.â The main priorities, after all. âI have a potion for that though - if you want it.â Sheâd dealt with enough hangovers and headaches to keep a decent stash in her trunk.
âIs there even a right side of the bed?â Nic huffed in reply, crossing his arms over his chest. He never went out of his way to be an ass to Storm, but sometimes he just couldnât help it.
âOh donât get cross with me, you know itâs just a stupid saying,â she protested, readjusting her bag. At least it was her he came across and not someone he generally didnât get along with - his reputation preceded himself. âBut really, are you all right? You seemed to be in a bit of a rush or just...not in a good mood.â
âIâm not six anymore. You may be completely terrified by this, but Iâm growing up. Soon Iâll be seventeen and apparating around on my own. You canât pick out my clothes forever.â She knew that deep down, her sister tried. Vienna knew better than anyone that Storm had difficulties accepting certain things, but for her entire life, Storm had done all she could to protect and love her. Someone had to. It was the reason Vienna couldnât hold anything against her; they loved one another and had always clung to that relationship as something sort of life-saving. âReally? Not just in the privacy of your dormitory or only at home?â She was pushing it, and she was well aware, but could she really be blamed for trying?
âYou can keep saying that all you like, it doesnât mean Iâm going to admit it any time soon.â Sheâd spent her entire life looking out for her sister, after all - what would happen when she no longer needed her? It was already happening, and next year Storm wouldnât be here at all - so letting go was inevitable. Knowing that didnât make it any easier. Outside of Hogwarts, everything was a complete blank - Vienna was the one thing she could cling to - but she needed to ease up. âReally - Iâll wear âem in public for everyone to see.â Which would be physically painful, but how many people here did she need to impress?
Nic walked down the corridor absentmindedly, almost not noticing that heâd almost ran over someone. âwatch it,â he huffed at them.
Recoiling slightly, Storm instinctively reached down to smooth out her robes, hating when anything had wrinkles in it. âHell, Nic - wake up on the wrong side of the bed?â Not that it was unexpected of him to speak in that manner, she was never pleased when it was directed at her.
âThatâll happen the moment mudbloods are removed from this school and shown their rightful place.â
âI wouldnât hold my breath, Florence - I donât think anything like that will be happening while weâre still here.â
âYou doubting me, Storm, is only gonna to make me want to try harder,â Lily looked at the target, hoping that the hand eye coordination she had when it came to dueling would help her in this somehow. âBESIDES, itâs just a game, right??â
âAn impossible game,â she immediately protested, eyeing it in disdain. She was never an overly competitive person, but not being able to accomplish something was always a blow to the ego. âBut fine - if you insist, go ahead and try.â
âWell, youâre entitled to your opinion on them, but I love them. Theyâre comfortable and I think they look adorable. Plus, theyâre really warm, perfect for when winter comes around. I was even considering getting you a pair. Not exactly like these, but still⌠something different from what you already have. Your stuff all looks the same. Besides, isnât the fact that I love them so much a part of the reason I am the way I am?â
âIâm sorry, can we backtrack to when you were my little sister whose biggest concern was what flower to pick? I donât do well with hypothetical questions,â Storm protested, feeling her defensiveness pop up. Even around Vienna, the ugly parts managed to come out - but if she could push through it for anyone, itâd be her. It had to be. She owed her that much, after all. âIâm sorry, all right? I didnât realize the socks were a big deal to you - if you got me a pair Iâd wear and love them. Promise.â

âEverything that comes out of her mouth is a lie.â
âOf course it is, sheâs Rita Skeeter. The whole school knows not to believe any of the rubbish she spouts.â
Florence Burke:
âYou both need to stop asking questions, period.â
âOr you need to stop being in a terrible mood, did you ever consider that?â
Vienna Macmillan:
âThey were a gift, and I like them. You donât see me making a fuss when you wear something I think is a bit much. It just⌠I donât know. It feels like you are ashamed of me, because I donât act like you or dress like you.â
âVi, come on,â Storm protested, a slight frown overtaking her face. She had never dealt well with feelings, honesty, comforting others - but if she couldnât convey such things to her sister, what chance did she stand? âI donât want you to be like me. I mean - am I a fan of the socks? No. But Iâm a huge fan of you the way you are.â
