i mean yeah it's invasive, but people comparing him to jane Patrick is insane, like that's a whole ass psychopath we're talking about 💀 idk about this series i think this is one i would enjoy more if i binge watched, i don't even know what i'm rooting for
i do think saying dan is as bad as or even worse than big jane is kinda pushing it. like, dan also makes me pretty uncomfortable because, even leaving aside the whole photo exhibition thing, the fact that he chose to pursue little jane when he was in such a vulnerable state, of ALL times, is sketchy as hell to me, but at least he has enough self-awareness and empathy to recognize when he crossed a line, apologize, and genuinely try to make things right. big jane, even at his 'best', just cannot take no for an answer and genuinely believes he's entitled to get his way. that man is TERRIFYING
it's also kind of wild to me that so many people agree with him about the contracts. he's literally out there preying on people's fears and desires, arbitrarily deciding who is 'worthy' of his favours, not telling them what he's gonna ask for in return, and then expecting them to agree to whatever he demands afterwards. and sure, we could argue that people are reckless for agreeing to the contract in the first place, but saying that just because he granted their wish he's morally justified in demanding anything (ANYTHING) from them is..idk, it just doesn't sit right with me
but anyway ;;;;;;;;;; don't get me wrong, im enjoying the show IMMENSELY. it's been a long time since a pairing's chemistry had me in this much of a chokehold, and obviously this is fiction: one of the great things about it is that it lets us explore and enjoy darker dynamics while keeping them separate from real life
that said, the only way i can see myself fully getting on board with where this is going is if they let little jane embrace the darkness too. after the shower scene in episode 4 im pretty sure he's attracted to big jane not despite him being obsessive, dangerous, and morally fucked up, but partly because of it, so i need the show to really lean into that soon, otherwise it's just going to start feeling too one-sided and abusive for my taste
also i desperately need little jane to start manipulating big jane right back until he's the one on his knees, completely losing his mind and being the one who's 'too emotional'. unfortunately im just not at all convinced the show is actually going to give me that, which i think it's a pity
but we'll see how things go!!!!!!
