it's so cool that u are good enough at anatomy yhat you don't use references!! do you have any tips or resources for others to get better at anatomy, or maybe can u share your art learning story? love your art sm it's sooooo gorgeous!!!!
Tysm! 🖤
I do use references in a way, just not very directly! I sometimes pull out a sort of "muscle map" or ecorché model to try and get anatomy right, since there are areas I'm still not 100% confident on (forearms my beloathed)
(more yap below)
Hey y’all I have an announcement! My web app that I’ve been working on, Afro Index, is now live! It’s a visual reference library of Black hairstyles, for artist, animators, writers, and anyone who wants to learn more about them!
Check it out at afroindex.org! 💛✨
A reference library for Black hairstyles with accurate naming, structured filtering, and curated reference images.
Hi! (Im really sorry for possible mistakes cuz english isn't my first and even second language 🥲)
I really appreciate ur works, and ur arts always make my depression days better a lot. Ngl ur comics and Staeve especially gave me a lot of inspiration for improving my a little bit died drawing skills lol. Thank you for your work from all my heart!
If its not a problem or secret info, i wanted to ask about coloring process. Are you using grey scaling (its when u color art in grey palette with light, shadow and environment process, im not sure about english name of it sorry) and then putting colors above of it? And how do you manage color palette for such a deep colors in result?
Hello!
Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoy my work! 🖤
My colouring process is very simple, 99% of the time it's just flat colours + ambient layer (usually a colour close to the environment) + shadows + highlights
Sometimes the shadows or highlights have more tones or are more detailed, but most of the time they're very simple as a base. I may add a couple odd layers for very bright highlights here and there but this is the gist of it

There are more poses and GORGEOUS VP that are too hot for tumblr, which can be found on the Nexusmod page. If you find any bugs, hmu on the chat on my P-treon or on discord. <3
Special thanks to @meanbossart for his art and letting us make this pack a reality, to @kazuhiras and @cursed-nyxan for their absolutley stunning VP, and to CatastrophicalCat for her Slayer/BT2 poses, VP, as well as a few extras that are super fun. (And all of her help lmao)

your art is STUNNING! so cool and inspiring
i love character design but i'm struggling to expand my horizons to more complex things like embroidery or armor for example. you draw armors and period clothing a lot, do you have sources for references you could share?
the websites and blogs i used to draw inspiration from are either dead or riddled with ai and it makes research for character design feel like a chore... these days i'm kind of stumped on where to find archives of different clothes from different times
i like world4.eu theyve got lots of fashion plates, would also rec looking for books on archive.org on period clothing, plenty of things to be found on archive dot org.
you can also get a lot of good western fashion plates post about 1830 from the met collection: https://www.metmuseum.org/art/libraries-and-research-centers/watson-digital-collections/costume-institute-collections/costume-institute-fashion-plates
and the NYPL database: https://digitalcollections.nypl.org/
most state libraries have an online database that you can access, hometown plugging the MHNSW https://mhnsw.au/collections/state-archives-collection/ though the website can be clunky there are some gems to be found in there if youre very brave
also if youre using pinterest see if you can track down sources for the pics, usually the websites theyre stealing from will have more things
if anyone knows where to find good resources drop them in the replies, non-western clothes especially are quite hard to research
I just wanted to drop in and say I really like your art style! Your comics feel very classic superhero comic book (something about the blocking and shading, I think) and it's striking, distinctive, but has a very nostalgic feel to it.
Thank you so very much! ❤️
While I have always been a fan of high contrasts, I’ve recently been studying Marcos Mateu-Mestre’s books. I would greatly recommend them for anyone who is interested in producing comics. You can probably find at least a few of these as free downloads online easily!

Do you have any advice for drawing the anatomy for longer ears? (Like elves and tiefling types)
For some reason they seem unnecessarily hard!
You’ve inspired me to do a more comprehensive tutorial which I’ll upload over on Patreon soon!
I typically draw the point up at a 45 degree angle (unless a character has a unique angle). There’s a few anatomical parts of the ear you can accentuate and achieve a balance of realism or stylization- I put a detailed version and simplified version above for reference
And here’s an anatomy diagram!
A short guide I made covering how I approach gradient maps
I dont know if you have already dropped what pens you use for your art but may we get the pens you use?
Have a great day!
For the past few months I've been using this pack!
YOUR LAST TUTORIAL WAS CRAZY GOOD!! do you have any tips on how to draw head angles? tilts, etc…
I feel like I repeat this a lot but the easiest thing to me is to model the head as a helmet of sorts, with a more spherical back and a flatter front, and the neck inserting into the base
Surface lines are useful to understand how the volume turns and deforms with different angles. Then from there I just apply other levels of abstraction (for instance, thinking of the jaw as a solid part that has a more or less fixed axis, thinking of structures like teeth and lips on top of it, etc)
It's easier for some people than others, but to me it does just come down to 1. Simplifying anatomical structures (especially bone and muscle) and 2. Either rotating those in your head or using external 3D aids to understand the volume
30 free to use pose refs! Use them however you want.
You can get all the high res files for free here ✨
wanted to share this because it became part of my finishing routine
Some hand sheets I made for the animation team! I looked at how Dana drew hands a lot and coupled it with my own anatomical knowledge of hands.
do you have any art books you'd reccomend? its hard to find ones that feel like theyre helping me improve
So it's hard to give a recommendation of the dome. It depends on the topics you're studying, and if you prefer books that focus a lot on explaining the science behind art OR if you like books that focus on demonstration a lot, or a mix etc.
I'll just give you the books I've used, but of course those are what worked for ME, and might not be what you're looking for
Art fundamentals (2nd edition) by 3dtotal - this book is a really good stepping stone in collecting many of the fundamentals that people talk about with more technical explanations. It tends to solve the issue of "what do i study next?", because you can just open it up and find something you think you're lacking.
Morpho collection by Michel Lauricella - A very popular anatomy book collection. The main morpho book (just called mopho anatomy for artists) is about technical explanations of the body in general, while the other booklets focus on specific parts of the body (muscles, fat, bones etc) and tends to be more of a schematics collection.
Framed perspective vol 1 and 2 by Marcos Mateu-Mestre - I like recommending these book more over perspective made easy for perspective studying, because imo i dont actually like pme's approach in simplifying things TOO much. I like that framed perspective goes very slow and technical over breaking down things. A lot more shape usage which makes things click faster than just rawdogging it with real life objects immediately
Color and Light by James Gurney - THE father of all painting tutorials. Half of the shit you hear in tutorials or from youtubers originates from this book. Scientific explanations, theory, and the various type of lighting and how they look... this book is incredible
Light for visual artists by Richard Yot - A book you should probably use if you're using color and light. While c&l focuses on the wide picture, explaining how light works in an environment, light for visual artists focuses on the object, how light hits certain things at certain poses. They do have some overlap, but overall a great complement to color and light.
I hope this helps and honestly i recommend just looking into art resources to find books of certain topics, browing the internet archive etc. Go wild have fun
so. i was not happy with the 3D models of horses on offer in the CSP store or literally anywhere else i could find them, i needed one to use for my work, and i went ahead and made my own that is now available for the low low price of FREE in the CSP assets store.
textures included are greyscale basic shapes, multicolor basic shapes, and white with no shapes (but eyes, mouth, nostrils, and hooves emphasized for ease).
shape is ROUGHLY based off the silhouette of an Andalusian. size-wise, it by default stands at around 16 hands, but of course it can be resized to suit your needs. for that, I recommend sizing a human pose doll to the correct height (in centimeters), lining them up on the same plane, and resizing the horse to match the human doll's height. remember that a horse's height is measured at the shoulders!
it also comes with the following preset poses:
if you use CSP and wanna snag it, type 2204263 into the search bar in the CSP assets store. happy horsing!
