Nervously sweating
Today I will be hemming the Worst Skirt in the World, which is on a bridesmaids dress. The wedding is next weekend. Yes, the dress has been here for months. Hey.
So, it's sort of a wrap skirt. Has full lining, which is attached to the outer skirt all the way down the front, where the wrap crosses over, but separate all along the bottom. It was very, very, dragging on the floor long originally. There was no attempt on the part of the shop that sold it to alter it to her height? Even though they had to go to a "fitting" months ago?
It's also supposed to be just above the ground while she's in heels. To shorten it I had to put her on a stool, in her heels, so it would hang down all around and not be dragging on the ground. Yes, it's the kind of poly-silky fabric that keeps squirming around while you work with it. This is just. augh.
This morning I had her put it on, with the heels, and I crawled around her on the floor making sure that, when I ironed around the bottom for the hem, I actually got it straight. Then . . I need to put it on the machine and do a thin, "handkerchief" hem around this stupid, squirmy thing without any errors at all. I hand-hemmed the lining, because it was (of all things) made from a silky knit fabric. My machine couldn't sew a lightweight silky knit fabric under any circumstances.

Bisexual penguin, pretty please? If you haven’t already (I looked and couldn’t find one) 🩷💜💙
Here you go! I hope you like it hehehe :3
I think it's time I learn to sew partially so I can make ren faire costumes and the like, and partially so I can adjust all the clothes I currently have to be clothes I feel more comfortable in.
Butterick B6682. 2 of 3. Numbers 2 and 3 have been sitting half finished on my sewing table since April. I finished this one and made some good progress on the last one. Hopefully, I will continue to find the motivation to sew and finish the last one in less than 2 months.

mending and skill trades
Visited my friend Sophie today, as she needed tailoring on her clothes. Life hasn't been kind to her lately, and she lost a lot of weight, so some of her clothes didn't fit anymore. I offered to tailor them, and I feel like we both win: she'll get to wear her favourite clothes again, and I have a fun little project to help her out :) So we went through her clothes, I pinned them (inside out) to her liking, and brought them home. It'll be a mix of hand sewing (for the thicker materials), and machine sewing (for the more straightforward pieces). My goal is to keep everything reversible, so if she chooses to change them in the future again, she can just seam rip it and she won't be short on material.
As a thanks, she gave me a loaf of homemade bread. Her bread is always amazing and I don't know how to bake bread at all, so I was super happy. In the bus on the way home, I thought about how great it was to trade our skills that way (and how to eat the bread). Instead of both spending money on necessities, we just traded our "silly little hobbies", which in fact are not silly at all, but real skills that can help ourselves and others. It kind of felt like a communal moment, detached from capitalism and consumerism. Am I reaching?
TL;DR: I mend I get bread
So many fiber arts have difficulty levels that are less about your level of skill than your ability to tolerate extreme multi-step processes.

we need to invent a spray tan-style treatment but instead of spraying you with tanning stuff it sprays you with heavy duty spf. and it lasts a few weeks so that way you can just get your spf spray a few times a summer instead of having to spend 10 minutes every day getting sticky and oily and making sure the sunscreen is all rubbed in. how do i get on shark tank
